Job Description

  • Serve as a player/coach, helping oversee daily newsroom operations while also reporting and writing on a near-daily basis.
  • Coach reporters on story development, source strategy, context, perspective and voice.
  • Help reporters prioritize the right stories to pursue and the right sources to meet.
  • Manage the daily news meeting and help keep the newsroom focused, nimble and deadline-driven.
  • Lead social media strategy and produce video content.
  • Help develop and own new editorial products, including potential future podcasts.
  • Help write and edit newsletters.
  • Strive to meet or exceed goals tied to audience engagement and growth.
  • Oversee awards content, special sections and editorial projects as directed by the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues, sources and community partners.
  • Take on other assignments as business and newsroom needs evolve.

Content creation won’t stop at writing articles. You’ll help us think bigger — across digital stories, video, social media, podcasts, newsletters, events and whatever smart idea comes next. We need someone who is excited to meet our audience where they are.

This role is also highly visible. If you’re looking for a behind-the-scenes job, keep looking. The Editorial Team Lead will serve as a brand ambassador for the Fort Worth Business Journal — speaking at events, meeting with community leaders, building source relationships and showing the market why this publication matters.

Above all, you’ll help run the newsroom with audience growth, community connection and editorial excellence in mind.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • At least three years of reporting experience. Internal ACBJ candidates should have experience as a senior reporter, associate editor or in another elevated newsroom role.
  • Strong beat reporting experience and excellent news judgment.
  • Proficiency with AP style.
  • The ability to work with reporters on story development and help make good ideas stronger.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to balance multiple plates at once.
  • Comfort executing under deadline pressure and holding others accountable to deadlines.
  • A positive, motivational approach to coaching reporters through change.
  • Proficiency with social media and foundational Microsoft Office skills, including Excel.
  • Comfort learning and using ACBJ AI tools.
  • Podcast and video creation experience — big plus.
  • An innovative mindset and a willingness to experiment.
  • A commitment to ethical journalistic behavior at all times.

You’ll thrive here if you are energized by building something new, coaching reporters, experimenting with formats and becoming a visible editorial voice in the Fort Worth community.

You should be the kind of journalist who can chase a story in the morning, edit a reporter in the afternoon, talk audience strategy before the day ends and still have one more idea to pitch before tomorrow’s news meeting.

This is a role for someone who wants to help shape not just what we cover, but how we show up — for readers, for sources, for the community and for each other.

The Fort Worth Business Journal is launching in October 2026 as a daily digital publication — and we’re looking for the right player/coach to help lead the newsroom from day one.

This is not a sit-back-and-watch-the-news-happen kind of job. As Editorial Team Lead, you’ll report, edit, coach and help manage the newsroom, including two reporters. You’ll work closely with the Editor-in-Chief of the Dallas Business Journal, our sister publication, while helping shape the voice, rhythm and community presence of a new Fort Worth newsroom.

You’ll be part editor, part reporter, part coach, part strategist and part newsroom spark plug. The right person will bring sharp news judgment, strong storytelling instincts, an eye for audience growth and the energy to build something fresh. Delivering unmatched business intelligence that helps people grow their businesses, advance their careers and simplify their professional lives is what we do best at American City Business Journals and you will play a vital role in executing on that mission.
