Job Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will bring editorial judgement, intellectual curiosity, bilingual capability and strong project management skills. Key responsibilities include:

i) Editorial Strategy and Standards

  • Develop and champion editorial standards for ArtScience Museum and Attractions across various platforms and public programmes.
  • Ensure consistent tone, style, terminology and institutional voice, adapting language for different audiences and formats.
  • Advise on structure, hierarchy, accessibility and readability for exhibition texts, labels, scripts, webpages and learning resources.

ii) Publications

  • Lead editorial development for publications, brochures, essays, guides and partner print materials.
  • Work with curators, artists, writers, designers, publishers, translators and partners to shape content from concept to final proof.
  • Commission, edit and proofread all written content across all digital and print materials
  • Manage schedules, version control, proofreading stages and final sign-off to ensure consistent and timely delivery.
  • Ensure publications meet standards for accuracy, accessibility, permissions, image crediting and quality.

iii) Museum Interpretation for Exhibitions

  • Work with curators, exhibition teams, internal and external partners to develop interpretative frameworks from concept to installation.
  • Translate artistic, scientific, technological and cultural ideas into clear, engaging and accurate language for broad audiences.
  • Support content hierarchies, visitor journeys and layered interpretation for both general and specialist audiences.

iv) Website and Digital Content

  • Create and oversee website content acting as the interface between Musuem and MBS marketing and digital teams
  • Ensure web copy is accurate, timely, audience-focused and aligned with brand, campaign and ticketing needs.
  • Adapt long-form curatorial, educational and programme content into concise, searchable and accessible digital copy.
  • Ensure digital content follows editorial standards, accessibility principles, SEO considerations and bilingual requirements.

v) Education and Public Programmes Content

  • Work with the team to develop and edit learning resources, festival copy, event descriptions, biographies, programme notes, workshop materials and scripts.
  • Ensure content for schools, families, educators, general visitors and specialist audiences is clear, age-appropriate and inclusive.
  • Collaborate with producers and educators on language for talks, workshops, tours, screenings, festivals and community engagement.

vi) Bilingual English/Mandarin Content Development

  • Provide high-quality English writing, editing, proofreading and quality assurance with sensitivity to tone, nuance and register.
  • Review and quality check Mandarin content, translations and bilingual materials for accuracy, cultural appropriateness and visitor experience.
  • Work with translators, vendors and stakeholders to manage bilingual workflows, terminology and consistency.

vii) Work within the Marina Bay Sands Operating Environment

  • Work with senior managers and colleagues across the Museum and wider Attractions portfolio to support effective communication on key content matters.
  • Work collaboratively across Marina Bay Sands, including Marketing, Communications, Legal, Compliance, Finance, Procurement and other departments.
  • Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends when necessary.

Job Requirements

Education & Certification

  • Degree in English, Literature, Art History, Museum Studies, Publishing, Journalism, Communications, Translation, Chinese Studies or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional experience in editing, publishing, museum interpretation, translation or communications is advantageous.

Experience

  • At least 4 years’ experience in editing, publishing, museum interpretation, cultural communications, journalism, copywriting, translation or related editorial work.
  • Track record delivering public-facing content from concept to final delivery across print, digital and/or physical environments.
  • Experience editing complex material for broad audiences, ideally across art, science, technology, design, culture or interdisciplinary subjects.
  • Experience managing editorial schedules, proofreading, version control, approvals and content sign-off.

Other Prerequisites

  • Native-level English writing, editing and proofreading ability, with excellent command of grammar, tone, structure and nuance.
  • Professional Mandarin proficiency, including the ability to review, edit and quality assure Mandarin translations and bilingual materials.
  • Excellent editorial judgement and the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, accurate, elegant and engaging public-facing language.
  • Strong understanding of audiences, accessibility, readability and inclusive communication.
  • Excellent organisation skills and impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to work diplomatically with senior stakeholders, creative practitioners, external partners and cross-functional teams.
  • Proven experience in project management and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of cultural literacy and an interest in the intersection of art, science, technology and culture.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently, in an often-pressured environment and fast-paced work environment.
  • Experience working in a museum, gallery, cultural institution, publisher, media organisation, university, festival or creative agency.
  • Knowledge of current debates and practices in museum interpretation, accessible writing, bilingual communication and digital content strategy.
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office and collaborative content management tools. Familiarity with CMS platforms, Adobe Acrobat proofing tools or editorial workflow systems would be advantageous.
