Job Summary
- Transaction Banking Group Product Management is hiring a Business Architect, Cash Product who will have an exciting opportunity to direct and influence the development of our Cash product roadmap to build innovative solutions for our corporate and institutional clients across the bank’s footprint.
- Standard Chartered is investing significantly in its Transaction Services capabilities to meet clients and business needs globally whilst increasing operational efficiency and deliver best in-class transaction service products. In this role the individual will be responsible for identifying opportunities, validating business case and leading agile squads to deliver solutions to meet our changing business and client requirements.
- Your priorities will span all payments, collections, clearing, digital assets product, as well as value add services in fraud prevention, risk and governance services. You will also be leading partnership initiatives within the bank and externally within the financial eco-system with regulators, processors, service providers, etc.
Business architecture & strategic leadership
- Define and maintain Cash business capability maps, value streams, to support solution consistency, and reuse across markets and channels
- Translate strategy and guiding principles into architecture guardrails used to evaluate proposed changes and ensure alignment with strategic vs. legacy direction.
- Drive a consistent approach to modelling end-to-end business outcomes (client journey, processing, controls, reporting) so delivery teams can implement with fewer rework loops.
- Oversee and provide strategic business solutions for Cash product development including understanding of business requirements, defining business and functional requirements and working with the business and development teams to support seamless project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Governance through BAC / LuW (early solutioning & decision support)
- Act as Business Architecture leadership within the Business Architect Council (BAC), supporting structured review of prioritised asks and ensuring high-quality solution direction.
- Review upcoming items and validate (or challenge) key decision points such as: alignment to market practice, regulatory vs. country-specific nature, client-specific justification/ROI, STP vs non-STP impact, and whether capability already exists within the bank/strategic platforms.
- Provide (or steer) a high-level solution direction and reconfirm the most appropriate ownership model (e.g., “lead hive” / accountable domain) to reduce downstream architecture churn.
- Ensure BAC outcomes are properly captured and traceable in work items (decisions, assumptions, dependencies), and that the right stakeholders are engaged early
Solution intent & design assurance (pre-inception quality)
- Ensure solution intent is documented at the right level of fidelity after early solutioning, enabling efficient progression into inception and build phases.
- Partner with Product Owners and Lead BAs to ensure critical non-functional and control considerations are not missed (operational process, compliance/regulatory expectations, client reporting impacts, etc.).
- Promote architectural consistency across platforms and initiatives by challenging bespoke market implementations where reusable platform patterns exist.
Stakeholder partnership & cross-domain alignment
- Work closely with Product Owners, delivery leads, solution/domain architects, channels, and interface teams to align business architecture decisions and sequencing across the Cash portfolio.
- Facilitate decision-making forums and working sessions to resolve architectural trade-offs, clarify ownership boundaries, and secure alignment before build commitment.
- Provide architectural input to portfolio-level discussions on simplification, standardisation, and strategic migration direction (e.g., platform uplift, API-led exposure of business services).
Business Partnership
- Maintain regular connect and engagement with key stakeholders periodically to refine backlog; lead the team to work towards optimising the product value based on continuous feedback.
- Collaborate closely with Technology, Digital Channels and cross-functional teams to drive end to end strategic product solutions aligned to the Product Strategy and roadmaps
- Ensure projects are delivered on to the highest quality standards, meeting or exceeding business expectations.
- Support business growth by enabling commercialisation of new capabilities, assisting Product Management teams, monitoring product adoption, elevating client experience, and driving continuous improvement in operations and systems.
- Foster a culture of innovation and leverage technology as a key enabler for business advancement.
Business Strategy execution
- Lead and influence delivery of Cash Product strategy and value proposition, specifically in the areas of consulting, competitor analysis, process design, governance, and control.
- Identify opportunities within the Product proposition and jointly develop such opportunities into viable client value propositions that will drive value for clients.
- Work with our Service & Client Implementation, Sales, Operations and regional product teams to document business requirements for new products and for enhancements to existing products and processes.
- Respond swiftly and effectively to emerging risks or control weaknesses, ensuring timely remediation and escalation through appropriate governance forums.
- Balance timely and high-quality business delivery with prudent risk management, ensuring the Group remains within its defined risk appetite.
Delivery of new product and enhancement
- Work independently to manage change (including articulation of detailed use-cases, solutioning and agile delivery) to ensure functionality matches business requirements.
- Defining operating model and client implementation procedures in conjunction with Operations, Client Implementation teams, Client Service Group and Technology partners
- Adopt and embed both Change Delivery Standard (CDS) and Group’s Enterprise Software Delivery Lifecycle (eSDLC) throughout the lifecycle of the product.
- Product Owner for Agile Delivery - Owns, prioritizes, and maintains the product backlog within the Hive/ squads ensuring the highest-priority items are delivered first.
- Monitoring the implementation of the end-to-end delivery of projects including testing and production verification runs
- Perform executive program reporting of progress update, risk, issues and mitigating actions
On-going enhancement and upkeep of product and platforms
- Ensuring product and platform compliance to group and local regulatory compliance
- Managing the annual platform upkeep and related partner upgrade projects
- Continuous process and product improvement to improve operations flexibility and business relevance
- Forward planning for pipeline initiatives and annual product roadmap
Our Ideal Candidate
- Degree in Business or equivalent disciplines. Degree in Information Technology is an advantage.
- 15+ years of banking experience
- Excellent Cash product knowledge across payments, collection, channels, clearing, pricing billing, liquidity
- Expert knowledge of ISOXML 20022 formats for Cash Management
- Good understanding of API and how these are used in the Banking sector
- Strong Product management, Project management, and analytical problem-solving skills and use of relevant tools
- Solid product management experience in implementing medium-large scale product enablers and platforms in the transaction banking area and across multiple countries.
- Good knowledge of global cash management practices
- Ability to work to tight timelines and at the same time produces a quality deliverable.
- Ability to engage stakeholders within business, operations and technology
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills
