Job Description

Requisition ID: 101809

Job Category: Consulting; Infrastructure

Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

Join a company that is passionately committed to the pursuit of a better world through positive change. With more than 70 years of business and technical expertise in mining, energy, and infrastructure, our 10,000 colleagues in 150 countries tirelessly work toward bettering the industries in which we operate. With practical solutions that are safe, innovative and sustainable, we think globally while acting locally. Are you looking for an opportunity to join a diverse group of professionals who are committed to remaining exceptional? We look forward to hearing from you.

Environment, People, and Place shape projects that are sustainable, resilient, and people-focused. We bring environmental intelligence and community-centered design to every stage, creating places that thrive socially, economically, and ecologically.

Our team combines strategic thinking with practical delivery experience. Unlike traditional management consulting firms, we sit alongside planners, engineers, economists, sustainability specialists, project managers and technical experts, enabling us to develop solutions that are both visionary and implementable. We help governments, developers, infrastructure owners and investors make better decisions about the places, projects and industries that will shape future generations. There has never been a more exciting time to join Hatch. Across Australia, our teams are helping deliver transformational city-shaping and infrastructure initiatives, including:

  • Future of Fremantle, supporting the transformation of Western Australia's historic waterfront into a vibrant mixed-use destination and economic gateway.
  • Bradfield City Centre, Australia's first new city in more than a century, helping create a globally connected innovation and advanced manufacturing hub adjacent to Western Sydney International Airport.
  • The Wave (Stage 1 Brownfield Package), supporting the delivery of one of Queensland's most significant transport infrastructure projects, helping connect communities and unlock long-term economic growth across the Sunshine Coast region.

As an Economics & Advisory Principal you will lead complex economic and strategic advisory projects for government and private sector clients. Working with multidisciplinary teams, you'll provide trusted advice that supports investment, policy and development decisions while delivering sustainable and commercially sound outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead economic, strategic and advisory projects across infrastructure, energy, resources and urban development sectors.
  • Provide strategic advice to government, investors and private sector clients.
  • Direct economic analysis, business cases, demand forecasting, market assessments and socio-economic studies.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Develop investment strategies, recommendations and implementation plans.
  • Prepare and present reports, business cases and executive-level client deliverables.
  • Support business development through client engagement, proposals and strategic pursuits.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and quality assurance across the team.
  • Representing Hatch through industry engagement, thought leadership and stakeholder relationships, strengthening our reputation as a trusted partner.
  • Contributing to a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing team culture, while supporting project delivery across Australia and internationally where required.

About You

You are a senior economics or advisory professional with extensive experience delivering complex projects and providing strategic advice to senior stakeholders. You have strong commercial acumen, proven leadership capability and enjoy building lasting client relationships.

You will bring:

  • 15+ years' experience in economics, infrastructure advisory, strategic consulting, public policy, planning or a related field.
  • A degree in Economics, Public Policy, Urban Planning or a related discipline. Postgraduate qualifications are advantageous.
  • Proven experience leading major advisory projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong business development, proposal writing and client relationship management skills.
  • Experience advising senior executives, boards and government decision-makers.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure funding, financing and delivery models.
  • Strong analytical skills, including economic modelling and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Experience working within government and stakeholder-driven environments.
  • Willingness to travel nationally, with occasional international travel as required.
