Description

The Cabinet for Economic Development is the primary state agency encouraging job creation, retention, and
business investment in Kentucky. The Cabinet works to attract new industries to Kentucky, assists existing
companies to grow and expand, and provides support and resources for entrepreneurs, startups, and small
business owners.

The Program Administration Division within the Department for Financial Services is seeking an Economic
Development Rep I to join our team. The successful candidate will work 100% in the office during the initial
6-month probationary period. Once training is complete there will be the opportunity for a hybrid work
schedule, if desired.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Develops a comprehensive understanding of assigned programs as well as state statutes and Cabinet procedures.
  • Reviews applications thoroughly through the approval process ensuring all necessary documentation is received and all policies are met.
  • Learns how to determine technical procedures for all assigned programs.
  • Learns about legal documentation with direction from supervisor.
  • Supports staff and learns to resolve issues.
  • Trains on required documentation from companies and applicants.
  • Communicates with businesses, entrepreneurs, and county representatives on both new and existing industries in Kentucky throughout the application process.
  • Provides opportunities for assistance and appropriate notifications regarding the status of active economic development projects.

Skills and Expectations include, but are not limited to:
  • Strong review skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Works well in team settings.
  • Have an interest in on-going learning opportunities.
  • Strong experience in Excel, Microsoft Word and Salesforce.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
NONE

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Experience in industrial development, economics, research, graphic design, economic development, business administration, marketing, communications, public relations, accounting, finance, compliance, or a related field will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions

Work typically involves extensive contact with the public. Travel may be required.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
