Our Economic Development Intern will provide general support for the Economic Development Department, with an emphasis on data management, organization, and business engagement activities.
The nature of the work is both project and team-based, and will provide our intern with substantial, transferable skills and hands-on experience in municipal economic development, business services, and public sector operations to help them progress professionally and personally.

Work Hours: Part-time;(Monday-Friday shifts) 20-30 hours per week
- Estimated start date of May 18 2026, for 260 total working hours
- Schedule may vary depending on scheduled interviews and various events within the Town or Economic Development Department
Primary Work Location: Erie Town Hall (645 Holbrook St)
- Telework options available, with onsite work required based on supervisor needs, regularly scheduled meetings and Town events

Duties and Responsibilities
Research and Data Management
- Input, clean, and maintain accurate business and property data in the Town’s CRM and internal tracking systems
- Conduct outreach—including phone calls, emails, and periodic field verification—to ensure the Town maintains accurate and current contact information for all commercial businesses (retail, office, service, industrial).
- Monitor and record vacancies, tenant changes, and other business updates to ensure datasets remain current and reliable.
- Process and organize departmental documentation, including invoices, incentive program materials, CO/Business License records, agreements, forms, and internal routing documents.
- Update and maintain the Town’s business map.
- Process AI-generated meeting notes and assist in formatting, distributing, and storing meeting summaries for staff.
Economic Development Support
- Schedule, coordinate, and prepare logistics and materials for meetings, workshops, business visits, and community engagement activities.
- Attend meetings, activities, and programs related to the Town of Erie's economic development initiatives.
- Accompany Economic Development Manager in conducting business retention & expansion (BRE) meetings with local businesses.
- Assist with customer service and front-desk support for business inquiries, providing timely, courteous responses and directing businesses to local and regional resources.
Marketing & Communications
- Provide current and relevant content for monthly economic development newsletters.
- Build and maintain inventory of Town-branded marketing materials, swag and giveaways and provide notice when reordering is needed.
- Aid in researching local and state resources available to Erie businesses, including mentorship programs, grants, incentives, financing, educational opportunities, etc., for use on the Town of Erie Economic Development website.
- Other duties as assigned.

QualificationsMinimum

Qualifications
- Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with an interest in Economic Development or working on such a degree.  Recent graduates may be considered.
