$24.31 - $28.44

Perform a variety of responsible and confidential economic development and administrative duties in support of the Economic and Development Services Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct executive administrative support to the Economic and Development Services Director.
  • Assist in preparing items such as notices, agendas, packets, and minutes for the Planning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and Development Review Committee meetings.
  • Conduct research to gather data on statistics or demographics for internal and external use.
  • Receive and screen phone calls and emails, offer assistance to callers and visitors, direct the public to appropriate person for additional assistance as needed.
  • Reserve and set up meeting rooms as required.
  • Type and prepare various correspondence to include letters, memorandums, reports, and other documents; review information for accuracy and completeness; make corrections as needed; enter information into databases as necessary.
  • Maintain and file records and documentation.
  • Research and respond to requests for information concerning local economic development activities as appropriate.
  • Facilitate and monitor the distribution of all Commercial/Residential plans for review; facilitate Driveway Permit applications.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Department’s budget, maintain budget control and monitor Department expenditures.
  • Maintain appropriate files.
  • Assist the various works units of the Economic and Development Services Department as necessary, specifically Planning and Zoning, IMS/ Special Projects Coordinator, Special Magistrate, and Code Enforcement Division as needed.
  • Able to work nights as needed when meetings are scheduled beyond normal working hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent; an Associate Degree or higher would be preferred. Three years of experience working in a planning or economic development agency is ideal, but advanced administrative assistance experience in a related field will be accepted.
  • A valid Florida Driver’s License with a clean driving history is required.
  • Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Must have excellent oral and written communications skills, with complete knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Requires knowledge of modern office practices and equipment, including Microsoft Applications such as Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

Position consists mostly of sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing in an office environment.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.

The person in this position needs to be able to frequently move about inside the office to access files, documents and drawings, personnel, office machinery, etc.

Employee frequently positions self in order to retrieve maps, drawings and documents from storage in low, confined areas and in high, precarious places.

Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

The person in this position frequently communicates with the Board, other County employees, and the public at large regarding planning, development and zoning. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Must be able to perceive, inspect, assess, and compare data, including graphically (maps).

Occasionally moves boxes, files, and/or large maps and drawing weighing up to 15 pounds.

The position primarily operates in an indoor, office environment. Employee is subject to exposure to dust.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
