Your day as an Economist

Your typical day-to-day work will include Contributing to the overall work of this highly collaborative team by assisting and, where appropriate, leading in the assessment of proposals and evaluations, maintaining and updating policy standards, incorporating emerging evidence and managing stakeholders. The role liaises extensively with all other business units within Treasury, government agencies and external stakeholders.

Achieve success as an Economist

In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW.

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:

• Relevant tertiary qualification in economics, econometrics or statistics, public policy, law, research, evaluation or related fields and/or professional experience in providing policy advice, research, and/or economic or other analysis.
• Ability to analyse data, models and apply critical reasoning across diverse policy issues to support economic and/or policy advice in consultation with senior staff.
• Experience providing advice in government, economic policy, or regulation is desirable.
• Knowledge of public economics, cost-benefit analysis and/or evaluation is desirable.
• Curious, coachable and resilient.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for ongoing employment at NSW Treasury, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia.
