Job Description

Primary Function:

Perform daily clinical operations of the Echocardiography Lab to include performing Transthoracic and Trans-esophogeal Echocardiograms, Contrast Studies using Definity, Bubble Studies, Stress Echocardiograms and Chemical Stress Echocardiograms. Also includes preliminary interpretation of studies, including an assessment of ventricular performance, and assistance during transesophageal procedures The sonographer will be utilizing 2D, M-Mode and Doppler techniques to evaluate and record pertinent anatomical, pathological and functional data while assisting in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The provision of services includes assessing patients, developing plan for accomplishing procedure(s) ordered, setting up room and equipment to accomplish procedure, and ensuring quality images.

Responsibilities:

Explains and answers any questions the patient may have to ensure the comfort level for the testing procedure.

Demonstrates proficiency by performing routine and emergency echocardiograms utilizing independent judgment and manipulation of equipment to obtain all necessary calculations and measurements. Recognizes cardiac abnormalities and notifies the Cardiologist based on departmental criteria as needed. Identifies the need for further testing with the contrast agent Definity, after passing competency training tech will administer the contrast agent. Notifies Cardiac RN and Cardiologist of any adverse events or reactions occur.

Downloads and prepares the Echocardiograms in preparation for the Cardiologist to review and interpret. Maintains daily records and documentation of patient exams and complete the billing process.

Participates in quality improvement activities and quality assurance meetings, attends Echo related conferences, ensuring continuing education and professional growth. Assists with maintaining requirements for accreditation with professional accreditation society.

Cultivates a collaborative and cooperative work environment within department.

Maintains a proper inventory of supplies needed in order to provide continuous service minimizing downtime.

Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Specifications

Training from a Cardio-Vascular program required. A minimum of three years practical experience or equivalent is required. RDMS or RCS required.
