The Echo Sonographer PRN performs advanced diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including 2-D echocardiography, color flow and Echo Doppler procedures on all patients as prescribed by the medical provider.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:

  1. Performs 2-D echocardiography color flow and echo Doppler procedures on patients. Assists the Cardiologist or designee along with other staff in trans-esophageal echo procedures and stress echocardiography.

  2. Performs procedures as ordered and obtains images according to written protocols.

  3. Positions patients’ appropriately using immobilization and protective equipment as directed by the provider.

  4. Organizes and accurately performs the individual steps in established procedures in the proper sequence. Reviews, manipulates, and evaluates images to deliver high quality diagnostic images. This includes any required post processing at remote workstations.

  5. Views sonograms, adjusts equipment to obtain images, including color distinctions and distinguishes audible sounds.

  6. Performs and documents quality control on equipment according to manufacturer guidelines or department protocols; recognizes and takes appropriate action for abnormal results. Reports equipment problems and failures to Bio-Medical or Manager.

  7. Ensures patient care is performed in a timely manner. Identifies patient orders and works to prevent treatment/procedure delays ensuring the continuation of service.

  8. Completes documentation and meets current standards including policies and procedures and documentation of all mandatory forms within the scope of the job, including EMR including pre, intra, and post-procedural assessments, medication administration, progress notes, etc.

  9. Ensures a safe and clean environment with all the necessary supplies needed to perform studies and procedures in exam room.

  10. Understands and uses Picture Archival Computer System (PACS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and other software related to job responsibilities.

  11. Engages in equitable distribution of departmental workloads.

  12. Performs routine assignments using existing procedures, and has conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within a discipline, typically acquired through technical training.

  13. Develops competence by performing structured work assignments, and receiving instruction, guidance, and direction from others.

  14. Assists in intra-operative and interventional procedures as needed.

Qualifications:


Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of program/training with specialization in Cardiac Imaging.
  • Current Registration with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or CCI in echocardiography.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by first day of employment is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CAAHEP or ARDMS approved Ultrasound school, or equivalent.
  • Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Training in Pediatric echocardiography.
  • TEE experience/knowledge.
