Job Description

Animal Referral Hospital – Homebush is seeking an experienced Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Nurse to join our growing specialist team.

Our Emergency & Critical Care service manages a diverse and challenging caseload, providing advanced diagnostics, treatment, and monitoring for critically ill and injured patients 24 hours a day. You'll work alongside Emergency Veterinarians, Criticalists, Specialists, and highly skilled nursing teams to deliver exceptional patient care in a fast-paced referral environment.

In This Role You Will:

  • Perform rapid patient assessment, triage, and ongoing monitoring of emergency and critical care patients
  • Deliver advanced nursing care to unstable, hospitalised, and critically ill patients requiring intensive support
  • Administer blood products, CRIs, advanced analgesia protocols, and emergency medications
  • Assist with emergency procedures including CPR, intubation, mechanical ventilation, thoracocentesis, central line placement, and advanced monitoring techniques
  • Manage emergency admissions, patient stabilisation, and the coordination of critical patient workflows
  • Work closely with Emergency Veterinarians, Criticalists, Specialists, and referring veterinarians to ensure seamless patient care
  • Maintain accurate medical records and uphold the highest standards of clinical nursing practice
  • Contribute to a supportive team culture focused on collaboration, learning, and clinical excellence

About You:

You are a qualified Cert IV Veterinary Nurse who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about providing exceptional care to emergency and critical patients. You enjoy learning, developing your clinical skills, and being part of a supportive team managing a diverse and rewarding caseload.

You will bring:

  • Previous Emergency & Critical Care and/or Referral Hospital nursing experience
  • Strong patient assessment, monitoring, and clinical reasoning skills
  • Experience managing critical patients and advanced nursing treatments
  • Confidence working in emergency situations and prioritising competing caseload demands
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills in a busy referral environment
  • A commitment to exceptional patient care and high clinical standards

This role would suit a nurse who enjoys critical thinking, taking ownership of their patients, and working collaboratively with Specialists and Emergency Clinicians to achieve the best possible outcomes.
