AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE TECHNICIAN

Nielsen Dodge of East Hanover is seeking experienced Automotive Service Technicians to join our service team!

Location: East Hanover, New Jersey

Job Type: Full-Time

Work Location: On-site

Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:30am to 5:00pm & every 3rd Saturday of the month

COMPENSATION

Compensation: $120k salary per year, paid weekly

Sign-On Bonus: Qualified experienced technicians are eligible for a Sign on Bonus (Subject to written eligibility, payment schedule, continued employment, and payment terms)

Additional Compensation: Production Bonuses, Efficiency Incentives, Certification Increases, Guarantees & Overtime Eligibility

Actual compensation will be based on relevant experience, certifications, diagnostic capabilities, productivity, qualifications, and other legitimate business considerations.

POSITION SUMMARY

Automotive Service Technicians diagnose, maintain, and repair customer vehicles in accordance with manufacturer procedures, dealership quality standards, and applicable safety requirements.

The successful candidate will have previous automotive repair experience, strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities, dependable attendance, and the ability to work effectively with technicians, service advisors, parts employees, and management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair customer vehicles.
• Perform routine maintenance, including oil and filter changes, tire rotations, fluid services, battery replacement, lighting repairs, and scheduled maintenance.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, engine-performance, steering, suspension, braking, climate-control, and drivability concerns.
• Use scan tools, diagnostic equipment, alignment equipment, manufacturer service information, and other approved resources.
• Perform wheel alignments and other repairs for which the technician is trained and authorized.
• Service motor-vehicle air-conditioning systems only when properly trained and certified.
• Document diagnostic findings and provide accurate repair recommendations to the Service Advisor.
• Obtain required authorization before performing additional repairs.
• Complete repair orders accurately and promptly, including inspections, findings, services, repairs, parts, and labor performed.
• Follow applicable manufacturer warranty, recall, technical-service-bulletin, and documentation requirements.
• Perform quality-control checks and road tests to confirm completed repairs.
• Move or road-test vehicles only when authorized, properly licensed, and eligible under Company insurance requirements.
• Comply with Company distracted-driving requirements whenever operating or moving a vehicle.
• Protect customer vehicles, personal property, keys, and confidential information.
• Participate in manufacturer, ASE, dealership, safety, and technical training.
• Use tools, lifts, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery safely.
• Wear required protective footwear, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and other assigned personal protective equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment damage, vehicle damage, accidents, and injuries.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• At least three years of automotive service technician experience is required.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Completion of an automotive trade or technical-school program is preferred.
• Current ASE certifications are preferred.
• Manufacturer training and certifications are preferred.
• EPA Section 609 certification is required before independently servicing motor-vehicle air-conditioning systems.
• Knowledge of automotive diagnostic tools, scan equipment, repair procedures, and shop equipment.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, and drivability concerns.
• Ability to use electronic repair-order and manufacturer service-information systems.
• Valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable under Company insurance requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality repairs.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to participate in continuing technical and safety training.
• Dependable attendance and ability to report to work as scheduled.

PHYSICAL & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including

• Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 100 pounds.
• Standing and walking for extended periods.
• Bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, climbing, and working underneath or inside vehicles.
• Safely using hand tools, power tools, vehicle lifts, and diagnostic equipment.
• Working in a service-shop environment with noise, fumes, oils, chemicals, temperature changes, and moving equipment.
• Wearing required protective footwear and personal protective equipment.
