This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Civil Engineer to join our Small Utility Services Team in Fort Worth, TX.

The candidate will be involved in projects supporting electric utility clients and will be part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges. Takes part in providing engineering support for utility infrastructure projects involving substations, transmission lines, and distribution systems. Tasks may include assisting with civil and structural design, site development, grading and drainage design, foundation design, construction support, and engineering analyses for utility-scale projects. Generates accurate and concise engineering deliverables and documentation regarding assigned aspects of projects. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Support engineers and project teams in the design and delivery of electric utility projects involving substations, transmission lines, and distribution systems.
  • Assist with the detailed design of low- to extra-high-voltage substations, including physical design, material and equipment specifications, foundation design, and construction support activities.
  • Support site grading and drainage design for substation facilities, including erosion control measures and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) development.
  • Assist with the design of overhead and underground distribution systems up to 25kV.
  • Assist with transmission line projects up to 230kV.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, technical reports, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) activities to ensure compliance with client and company standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support project execution and client objectives.
  • Learn and apply utility engineering standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Develop an understanding of utility industry design requirements, codes, regulations, and construction practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Preferred concentration in Structural, Geotechnical, Environmental Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • 0 to 2 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental civil engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated interest in utility infrastructure, substations, transmission, and/or distribution projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard engineering software tools.
  • Ability to learn and apply utility design standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and conduct policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Internship or co-op experience with a consulting engineering firm, electric utility, or industrial facility.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Coursework or project experience related to utility infrastructure, site development, foundation design, grading and drainage, stormwater management, transmission, or substations.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, or other civil design software.
  • Participation in ASCE or other professional engineering organizations.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $60,600 - $100,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
