Are you passionate about helping young children find their voice and build the foundation for lifelong communication? The Arc of the Ozarks is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our specialized diagnostic team supporting children ages 2–3 who have no functional communication and little to no previous therapy experience.
About the Role: This role is part of our intensive early intervention program, designed to assess and develop foundational communication skills in toddlers. You’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team to complete observations and assessments (including ADOS when appropriate), incorporate play-based therapy, and build structured yet natural language opportunities throughout each session. The ability to assess through engagement and play is essential.
Training in ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) is highly preferred, but we are happy to provide training for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct dynamic observations and structured assessments to inform individualized treatment plans.
  • Incorporate play-based strategies to assess and support early communication and language development.
  • Design and implement therapy goals that focus on foundational language acquisition, joint attention, imitation, and early social communication.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to deliver coordinated and individualized care.
  • Provide parent coaching and feedback to support carryover and generalization of skills at home.
  • Complete timely, accurate documentation in alignment with best practices and organizational standards.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training specific to early intervention and diagnostics.

Qualifications:
  • Education Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Certification Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from ASHA preferred. Clinical Fellowships may be considered.
  • Licensure Missouri SLP License in good standing (MO Board of Healing Arts)
  • Preferred Experience with early intervention or ADOS training (we will provide if not yet trained)
  • Skills Strong play-based assessment skills, comfort working with nonverbal or pre-verbal toddlers, collaborative spirit

SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

Definition

Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the speech-language pathologist (SLP) provides assessment and treatment services within their scope of practice for individuals with varying diagnoses or disabilities. The SLP is responsible for working with clients and their families or caregivers to promote increased quality of life and confidence throughout the lifespan. The SLP will call work collaboratively within The Arc of the Ozarks, as well as within the community.

The SLP must have excellent organization, time management, and communication skills—both verbal and written. Services may be provided in a clinic, school-based, or in-home setting dependent upon the clientele’s needs. The SLP is an hourly, non-exempt position.

    Administer age-appropriate screenings and assessments.

    Develop and implement treatment goals and objectives.

    Utilize evidence-based practices for a variety of diagnoses and disabilities.

    Maintain appropriate and timely documentation.

    Communicate effectively with members of the client’s care team and family.

    Complete thorough chart reviews and obtain additional diagnostic information from the client’s care team and family.

    Supervise speech-language pathology assistants and interns.

    Arrange travel time to maximize contact with students and to accomplish other duties.

    Engage in continuing education and professional growth activities related to the profession and scope of practice.

    Make appropriate recommendations and referrals for additional medical and other related services, as needed.

    Complete all necessary documentation in a timely manner.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form.

    Adherence to a high level of professional and ethical standards.

    Ability to interact appropriately with clients, families, visitors, as well as Arc personnel and vendors and other professionals.

    Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, and electronic medical record systems for data collection and reporting.

    Ability to stand, stoop, lift up to 50 lbs, and pull and push items on an infrequent basis.

    Licensed and insured driver with a vehicle available for work.

    The Arc of the Ozarks was formed and incorporated as a not-for-profit organization. Our mission is to support individuals with disabilities in directing their own lives as a valued members of the community.

    In 1959, a small group of parents recognized the need for services for children with developmental disabilities. A support network was established for these children and their families, resulting in the 1963-64 establishment of The Arc.

    Today, The Arc serves individuals with a variety of disabilities. Services include residential, education, training, day habilitation, therapeutic recreation, advocacy, autism services, employment, psychological counseling - generally helping these individuals live, learn and work in our community.

    The Arc is affiliated with the Arc of the U.S. and our programs are accredited by CARF.
