Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an Early Head Start Teacher to join our team of talented professionals.

Ensure that daily activities and interactions reflect the mission and goals of the program. Plan and implement appropriate early childhood activities for children based on the principles of the Infant-Toddler HighScope curriculum. Provide and maintain a clean, nurturing and safe environment that supports and encourages the growth and development of infants and toddlers. Adhere to and maintain compliance with all The Guidance Center, Office of Head Start Performance Standards and any other local, state and/or agency policies and procedures. Demonstrate cultural competency and sensitivity and respect to the diverse backgrounds, needs and experiences of children, families, community volunteers and TGC employees.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  1. Implement lesson plans that support the classroom daily schedule, the HighScope Infant-Toddler curriculum and the achievement of individual children goals.
  2. Provide a classroom environment and that are reflective of the cultures and ethnic backgrounds of the infants and toddlers enrolled, including incorporating methods to accommodate and support infants and toddlers with special needs.
  3. Implement classroom activities that encourage cognitive, social emotional and physical development.
  4. Maintain the overall routine consistently as possible, while being flexible to accommodate individual children's natural rhythms and temperaments.
  5. Work together with the EHS Teacher-BS/BA in utilizing the HighScope Infant-Toddler curriculum to plan and implement daily activities.
  6. Promote social-emotional growth by utilizing the HighScope Infant-Toddler Curriculum strategies.
  7. Work as a team and collaborate with staff, families and community members.
  8. Maintain the confidentiality of all information and discussions of children, parents, community volunteers and staff.
  9. Identify and report and report suspected child abuse and neglect.
  10. Assist with the recordkeeping process including, meal attendance sheets, home visits, parent teacher conferences, developmental screenings and classroom health and safety checklists according to required timelines.

Requirements

Must have a minimum of a bachelors degree in early childhood education or related field. Previous experience working with infants and toddlers in a classroom setting. Knowledge and understanding of early childhood development and the ability to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum practices. Must have 3 semester hours of Infant Toddler Development and Care practices within 6 months of hire.

Throughout the last six decades the agency has maintained a collaborative relationship with its local communities and schools to support adults and children experiencing mental health difficulties and other challenges. A group of concerned residents and educators recognized the need for mental health services in our area and joined forces in 1958 to help form The Guidance Center.
