Job Description

JOB PURPOSE: The Early Head Start Teacher is responsible for all aspects of the care and education of enrolled children.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Provides services to toddlers including physical caregiving, developmental assessments, and implementing age-appropriate curricula.
  • Serves as the primary teacher for children and ensures safe and healthy learning environments and individualized learning activities for children.
  • Individual may also be designated as a Center Assistant, assigned to classrooms as needed to provide continuity of care for required coverage during staff breaks, staff planning, and full-day operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Works well independently and as part of a team.
  • Works well with individuals of all cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to monitor and prioritize workload and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry toddlers who may range in weight up to 45 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, and rise from the floor.
  • Ability to reach with hands/arms and use hands to manipulate, handle, and feel objects.
  • Background check/drug screen.
  • Reliable transportation required.

SCHEDULE:
  • 8-hour shift, Monday-Friday.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent college coursework.

As the designated community action agency for Lexington-Fayette, Bourbon, Harrison and Nicholas counties, we create opportunities for individuals and families that assist them in becoming self-sufficient. To that end, the Council focuses its resources on child and youth development, family development (including social and economic self-sufficiency), employment strategies, health, transportation, safety net (emergency) services, housing services, economic development, technology, and volunteerism.
