QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The Preschool and Family Center is a Birth to 5 program. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The following is a list of qualifications for the position, any one of which may be waived by the Board in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with current, valid Michigan teaching certificate with Early Childhood (ZA) and special education K-12 endorsements (ZN)
  • At least 5 years of successful teaching experience with infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
  • At least 5 years experience with preschool children with special needs.
  • At least 5 years experience with assessment and evaluation.
  • Experience writing and implementing IEPs.
  • Understand current early childhood best practices for supporting children in their natural environment, to the greatest extent possible.
  • Proof of COVID vaccination required.


ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Infant Mental Health training.
  • Experience working within inclusive preschool settings
  • Experience working in preschools in the public schools and private sector


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate students that have a disability or are suspected of having a disability to determine if additional supports are needed. .
  • Analyze evaluation data to be able to recommend and implement appropriate programs and supports for early childhood students ages 2 1/2 - 5 years.
  • Work with administration to coordinate teacher/provider caseload and referrals.
  • Collaborate with general education and special education teams.
  • Understand district early childhood curriculum and be able to recommend accommodations and modifications for students to be successful in their natural environment.
  • This is a full time position, requiring regular reliable and predictable attendance on site to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Communicate effectively and present information both in oral and in written form

REASONING ABILITY:
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Interpret an extensive variety of statistical information and data related to student achievement.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Interact with public and other staff as required.
Apply knowledge of current replicated research and techniques related to sensory issues.
