Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, and vision and values of the organization, works as part of a multidisciplinary community team, provides professional therapeutic services for families with children 0 – 5 years. Conducts comprehensive mental health and psychosocial assessments and provides therapeutic services such as dyadic, individual and group counseling, psychodynamic therapy for families, play therapy, psycho-education and intervention. In conjunction with family’s identified needs, provides treatment and liaises with community partners. Coordinates care using a supportive case management approach develops, implements and maintains comprehensive treatment plans. Initiates and participates in case conferences/meetings with client and family and participates in the collaborative process of developing and adjusting treatment plans. Provides information to families and the general public; consults with other health providers and liaises with preschools, Ministry of Children and Family Development, physicians, community agencies and others. Participates in committees, community initiatives, team meetings, continuing education and engages team planning and quality improvement initiatives. QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Master's degree in Social Work, Clinical Counselling or other relevant health related discipline. Three (3) years’ post Master’s recent related experience working with infants and children utilizing a psychodynamic therapy model within a mental health setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid BC Drivers License. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesComprehensive knowledge of early childhood development, child and infant mental illness, and current trends.Comprehensive knowledge of diagnostic assessment of infants and children.Comprehensive knowledge of psychodynamic, psychotherapeutic and group therapy techniques.Broad knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to children and families.Broad knowledge of community resources, service mandates, and referral guidelines.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, physicians, school counselors, clients and their families, students, and other service providers in health and social services, both one-on-one and in groups.Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with preschool children and their families in order to explore issues that are beyond the initial presented concerns.Demonstrated ability to work effectively with complex development behavioral issues.Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promote communication and lead to a cooperative approach to problem solving within a multidisciplinary setting.Demonstrated ability to set priorities, organize work and meet deadline. Ability to operate related equipment.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and e-mail software.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
