Job Description

Emali Early Learning Centres are high energy, dynamic and caring childcare centres who always strive to achieve best practice outcomes and the highest standards of care in early childhood development for children aged from six weeks to five years.

Emali Early Learning Centre, South Australia’s leading group of Early Learning Centres, is currently looking for a cook for 2 of our centres. You will be required to prepare nutritious and delicious main meals and snacks whilst adding your individual flair. The daily responsibility for health and hygiene and food safety would form part of this role, as well as engaging with the children and helping to establish healthy eating practices across the Centre.Our Centres operate between 6.30am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday.

The successful candidate must possess the following key attributes and skills:

Previous experience as a cook

High level knowledge and skills in food safety and hygiene, as required under the Food Safety Legislation 2001

A strong foundational understanding of allergy & intolerance management practices

Able to work autonomously with good time management skills.

Values-based high work ethic including able to always maintain and respect confidentiality (including information pertaining to clients and Centre business)

Commitment to always support the Centre’s ethos and core values.

Working knowledge of education programs in an Early Learning Centre setting

Proven ability in the implementation of the National Quality Standards (NQS) around Early Childhood Education

Understanding of the importance in evaluating developmentally appropriate programs and routines for individual children and groups

Understanding around the importance of recording and maintaining accurate observations

Previous experience and appreciation for accurate record-keeping for child safety, care, and educational program purposes

A desire to liaise with families and outside agencies regarding educational support.

A genuine passion for providing a nurturing and caring environment for preschool children aged from 6 weeks to school age.

The key responsibilities for this position include:

Daily and weekly meal preparation

Managing the Kitchen environment, including planning, cleaning, ordering, and stock management

Working with external food safety regulatory bodies

Supporting a friendly, secure, and stimulating interactive learning environment with the Children

Ensuring compliance with health & safety standards in line with policies, procedures, and regulations

Prepare, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate programs for individual children or groups.

Record observations of individual children or groups for program planning purposes

Assist in establishing a learning environment which is stimulating, focused and pleasant reflecting Emali’s values and ethos.

Nurture the whole child’s development, respecting the children’s individual needs, abilities, and interests.

Provide consistent, caring, and adequate supervision of children always.

Provide open communication channels with parents and staff.

Respect parent’s feedback about the service and raising issues with management immediately.

Undertake and implement the requirements of the National Quality Framework

Maintain relevant and accurate data as required and as relevant to National Quality Standards (NQS)

Complete documentation and programs required to support the NQS outcomes.
