Advanced Energy United (United) is currently seeking a Policy Principal to join our Decisionmaker Education and Engagement team (DMEE).

The DMEE teamassistsgovernors,state regulators, state energy office officials, andpolicymakersto better understand advanced energy products, services, and business models. Throughconferences, business roundtables, and political events, United engageskey decision-makers around the benefits advanced energy technologies and services can provide to constituents and helps to solve the challenges in obtaining these benefits.

Reporting directly to the Policy Director, thePolicy Principal willbe responsible forstrategizing, implementing, and managing state-level campaigns dedicated to ensuring keydecision-makersare equipped with strategies to deploy affordableadvancedenergysolutionsquicklyto support their state’s economy.

The ideal candidate has exceptional project management, relationship building,and stakeholder engagement skillsas well asan ability toquicklyassessandact uponpolitical dynamicsthat are affecting the energy sector.While you do not need to be a state energy policy expertto be successful in this role,strongcandidates should possess an interest in—and working knowledge of—energy policy issuesandbe comfortable with communicating with decision-makers at a high level on United’s policy priorities. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial,proactive,comfortable with ambiguity, and flexible. Candidates will need to travel to meet with key stakeholdersapproximately 1-2times per quarter.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and executestrategies for state-level regulatoryand gubernatorialengagements.
  • Conduct research on state-specificenergy outlooks, political landscapes, and stakeholders to inform strategic approaches.
  • Build,maintain, and ownrelationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, advocacy groups,coalitions,industry experts,and regulators.
  • Represent United in front of decision-makers and communicate our policy priorities effectively.
  • Use project management tools and systemseffectively to deliver success on both short and long-term goals.
  • Maintain and organize information to contributetoprogram knowledge management and retention.
  • Communicatecampaign progress, outcomes, and key metrics for internal and external stakeholders, including United’s member companies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3-6years of professional experience, withat least2yearsofthat experiencein political analysis,campaigns,and/or issues advocacy.
  • Experience in the advanced energy industry is a plus. 
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and navigate technical subject matterand to communicate key insights effectively to decision-makers.
  • Track recordof successfully launching and managing multi-stakeholder programsor campaigns.
  • Independent self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit; candidates must bevery comfortableworking with colleagues in a remote environment, owning new projects,managingtheir own calendar, and delivering onhigh expectations.
  • Strong interpersonal skillsrequired; candidates must be able to successfully develop andmaintainproductiverelationships withkey stakeholders, including policymakers, advocacy groups, industry experts, and regulators.
  • Existing relationships – or ademonstratedability to quickly buildrelationships– with seniorleaders in the energy sector.
  • Experience managing confidential informationand intelligence.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written,required—inclusive of public speaking.
  • Entrepreneurial sensibility comfortable withhigh levelsof ambiguity and fluidity.
  • Willingness to travel as needed (up to 25%).
