The Deputy Manager - Central Process Engineering (Tractor) at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd will be entrusted with leading and managing comprehensive manufacturing operations within the tractor plant to meet stringent quality, cost, and delivery objectives. This key leadership position requires oversight of daily production activities, maintenance schedules, engineering solutions, safety adherence, compliance with regulatory mandates, as well as logistics and warehousing processes, all aimed at ensuring seamless plant functionality.
The role demands the development and implementation of advanced manufacturing methodologies and optimization strategies to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence. A significant focus lies in fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation, efficiency, and professional growth among cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities include planning and coordinating production workflows, monitoring key performance indicators to enhance throughput and productivity, troubleshooting operational bottlenecks, and enforcing best practices in quality and safety standards. The role also involves spearheading digitisation efforts such as the integration of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and adoption of Lean manufacturing principles to transform plant processes.
The Deputy Manager will serve as a pivotal liaison with internal departments, suppliers, labour unions, and regulatory agencies to maintain compliance and positive industrial relations. The ability to lead change initiatives and drive strategic projects in Lean Manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is essential to this role.
Manufacturing
The position requires candidates to possess a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) degree or a recognized diploma in engineering disciplines related to manufacturing, mechanical, or industrial engineering from an accredited institute. This educational foundation is critical to understanding the technical and operational aspects of tractor manufacturing processes.
Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing technologies, production systems, mechanical design, and quality assurance principles underpinning the industry will be highly valued. Candidates with advanced certifications in lean manufacturing methodologies, Six Sigma, or digital manufacturing technologies will have a distinct advantage, as these credentials demonstrate capacity to drive efficiency and innovation in plant operations.
Continuous learning through professional development programs is encouraged to keep abreast of evolving manufacturing trends, digital advancements, and industry best practices, ensuring leadership remains forward-thinking and informed.
The ideal candidate will have accumulated between 5 to 10 years of progressive, hands-on experience in manufacturing environments, preferably in automotive or tractor-related industries. This experience should demonstrate a trajectory of increasing responsibility, including leadership of sizeable plant operations and multidisciplinary teams.
Proven expertise in managing operational excellence projects, resource planning, and production scheduling is essential. Candidates should showcase experience in driving digitisation and process optimization initiatives such as MES implementation, Lean Manufacturing, Total Quality Management (TQM), and other continuous improvement frameworks.
Experience working closely with diverse stakeholders including supply chain teams, quality assurance, safety compliance, government bodies, and labour unions will be necessary to ensure holistic operational integration and stakeholder satisfaction.
Critical experience for this leadership role includes demonstrated success in managing complete manufacturing operations while concurrently overseeing a significant support function such as Supply Chain Management (SCM), Process Engineering (PE), or Production Planning & Control (PPC). Managing end-to-end processes from planning through execution and continuous improvement initiatives is a core requirement.
The candidate must provide evidence of pioneering digitisation projects that drive manufacturing innovation and operational agility. Competency in the deployment and management of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), as well as profound knowledge and application of TPM, TQM, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), and Lean methodologies are essential.
Experience in effectively navigating complex relationships with government regulators, labour unions, suppliers, and other key partners is mandatory for ensuring compliance and fostering a conducive working environment.
Moreover, an outstanding candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices and frugal innovation, aligned with Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd’s leadership competencies and vision. This includes integrating sustainability principles into operational strategies and cultivating an environmentally responsible mindset within the plant.
