General Description and Classification Standards Directs and oversees all plant maintenance mechanics with all of the preventive and corrective maintenance at wastewater treatment facilities; implements and obtains the most highly effective maintenance performance within the City of Atlanta Water System. This is full-time supervisory work over a skilled work group. Supervision may be over a group of similarly skilled employees or a group with varied skills. Position would normally be responsible for maintenance/construction activities for a defined department, facility, or area or for a large crew of specialized skilled workers.

Supervision Received Works as part of a management team with minimum supervision; meets weekly with immediate supervisor and management to discuss, review and plan for current work orders and future tasks and projects. Normally receives guidance regarding overall mission, scheduling, unusual priorities, etc. but is free to set work methods, timetables, performance standards, etc.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. Directs and evaluates staff, handles employees concerns and problems, directs work, counsels, disciplines and completes employees performance appraisals. Instructs employees on repair procedures to ensure proper maintenance of equipment and tools. Prepares and submits work orders and daily activity reports to ensure employees are aware of daily assignments. Evaluates and approves employees performance on completion of equipment repairs. Prepares payroll; completes employee appraisal and maintenance reports. Assists operations personnel in trouble shooting problems with equipment, controls, alarms and ultra-sensory equipment. Evaluates applicants and participates on the interview panel. Decision Making Position authorizes the evaluation as well as the authority to make final problem-solving decisions when situations, greater than normal day-to-day mechanical issues, occur.

Leadership Provided Leadership is provided to the senior plant maintenance mechanics; trains new employees; manages schedule for in-house projects performed by the maintenance work team. Position MUST have formal supervisory authority over work group (typically at least five to six employees) to include discipline, performance management, scheduling, training, etc.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list. In-depth knowledge of most concepts and methods related to the area of assignment. Knowledge of basic supervisory skills. Knowledge of administrative and safety requirements for the assigned area. Proficient knowledge and experience using the following: Power/hand tools used to maintain and repair all equipment. Precision tools used to measure and align equipment for proper installation. Utility crane truck used for transportation, tool storage and handling daily workloads. Mobile crane truck used to make heavy load lifts when installing and removing equipment. Bucket truck used to lift personnel when working on equipment in high places. Skill in performing all typical tasks associated with the area of assignment and in adapting to new situations or configurations. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills in providing direction to a group of skilled employees. Ability to train and manage a group of skilled and semi-skilled employees in carrying out technical, maintenance, or construction activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). 5-8 years of related experience, including 4 years' of progressively responsible plant maintenance experience and 1 year of supervisory experience in a plant maintenance position; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job function.

Preferred Education & Experience Completion of technical course in appropriate area and 5-6 years' of directly related experience. Licensures and Certifications May be required to get licensure or professional certification within a specified time after entry into position; assignments received may be limited by licensure requirements.

Required: Valid Georgia driver's license.

Preferred: Maintenance Technician License.

Water Distribution or Backflow License.
