Dutch Wonderland is seeking an experienced Maintenance / Industrial Painter to maintain and protect the wide variety of buildings, amusement rides, equipment, structures, paved surfaces, pools, and other assets throughout our property.

This is a hands-on commercial and industrial painting position focused on maintenance, surface preparation, protective coatings, and property improvement, not scenic or decorative painting.

The work is unusually varied. One project may involve painting a building interior or exterior, while the next may involve preparing and coating structural steel, amusement ride components, a swimming pool, an epoxy floor, or parking lot markings.

Roles & Responsibilities:

What You’ll Do

  • Perform commercial and industrial painting throughout the park and associated facilities.
  • Prepare and paint interior and exterior buildings, amusement rides and ride components, structural steel, equipment, railings, fencing, pools, concrete, pavement, and other property assets.
  • Perform corrosion-control work including rust removal, surface preparation, priming, and application of protective coatings.
  • Apply conventional and specialty coatings including latex, alkyd, industrial enamel, epoxy, urethane, two-component systems, pool coatings, high-traction coatings, floor coatings, and sealers.
  • Perform parking lot and pavement striping including parking stalls, curbs, traffic markings, pedestrian areas, and safety markings.
  • Prepare wood, metal, fiberglass, concrete, masonry, drywall, and other surfaces using appropriate methods including cleaning, scraping, sanding, grinding, pressure washing, patching, caulking, and masking.
  • Mix and apply coatings according to manufacturer specifications, including proper ratios, catalysts, pot life, recoat times, and application requirements.
  • Apply coatings using brushes, rollers, airless spray equipment, striping equipment, and other professional painting tools.
  • Inspect existing coatings and identify corrosion, adhesion problems, deterioration, and other conditions requiring repair.
  • Select appropriate preparation methods, primers, coatings, and application techniques to provide durable, professional-quality results.
  • Estimate materials needed for projects and assist with ordering paint, coatings, and supplies.
  • Properly maintain painting equipment, tools, materials, and work areas.
  • Safely work from ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and other elevated work platforms.
  • Coordinate work around park operations, weather, project schedules, and guest areas.
  • Support the broader Maintenance team as operational needs require, which may include assisting qualified maintenance personnel with attraction inspections, preventive maintenance activities, and other general maintenance projects.
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned by Maintenance leadership.

What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; relevant work experience may also be considered.
  • 3+ years of commercial, industrial, facilities, or maintenance painting experience preferred.
  • Vocational, trade school, apprenticeship, or comparable technical training is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of surface preparation and coating selection for metal, wood, fiberglass, concrete, masonry, drywall, and pavement.
  • Experience with two-part coatings, epoxy systems, corrosion-control coatings, and airless spray equipment strongly preferred.
  • Experience with parking lot striping, pool coatings, floor coatings, industrial equipment, or similar specialty applications is a plus.
  • Ability to read and follow coating manufacturer instructions, technical data, mixing requirements, and SDS information.
  • Ability to identify coating failures and determine appropriate preparation and repair methods.
  • Strong attention to workmanship, preparation, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-trade Maintenance team.
  • Ability to safely use common painting, power, and hand tools.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the hazardous equipment, elevated work, and other duties associated with this position and applicable child labor restrictions.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company requirements for authorized drivers.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and work outside normal park operating hours.
  • Must follow all company safety procedures and properly use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to safely work with paints, solvents, thinners, catalysts, coatings, and other chemicals associated with commercial and industrial painting.

Physical & Working Conditions

The following essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, kneel, squat, climb, reach, and work overhead.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to distinguish coating colors, surface conditions, and coating coverage necessary to perform assigned painting work.
  • Ability to safely work at elevated heights using required fall-protection equipment and appropriate access equipment.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in heat, cold, humidity, direct sunlight, rain, and other weather conditions.
  • Regular exposure to dust, dirt, paint, solvents, machinery, noise, and active maintenance environments.
