If you are an early-career researcher aiming to establish an independent research profile, this position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge scientific advancements.
At the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark (DTU Construct), we are seeking a Tenure Track Researcher in Advanced Turbomachinery within the Section of Thermal Energy.
The section conducts research in close collaboration with industrial and academic partners, focusing on the optimization of energy conversion technologies supporting the green transition. Research areas include power generation, refrigeration and heat pump systems, internal combustion engines, biomass utilization, energy storage, electrified transport systems, and industrial electrification. The work involves advanced analysis, modelling, and optimization of thermal systems and components based on thermal-fluid sciences. Particular emphasis is placed on high-efficiency turbomachinery, advanced heat transfer, thermodynamic cycle innovation, and digitally enabled design and optimization. We seek a candidate with demonstrated research experience at postdoctoral or researcher level in turbomachinery.
Your overall focus will be to strengthen the department’s competences in turbomachinery modelling, analysis, optimization, and experimental investigation, in research fields related to power generation technologies, heat pump and refrigeration systems, and thermo-mechanical energy storage. You will collaborate closely with colleagues at DTU as well as with academic and industrial partners in Denmark and internationally.
Your responsibilities will also include the development of competitive research proposals in collaboration with partners from academia and industry. We expect you to have a strong profile in thermal sciences based on a mechanical engineering background. It is essential that you have experience in the conceptualization, modelling, design, and optimization of turbomachinery. Furthermore, you should have experience in developing research proposals and a proven ability to lead the publication of research results in leading international journals. Teaching and supervision experience is required. You should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment spanning research, education, and engagement with external stakeholders. Experience with industrial collaboration or externally funded research projects (e.g. EU programmes) will be considered an advantage.
You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
