We are seeking compassionate, dependable, and experienced Caregivers/DSPs to join our team. As a Direct Support Professional, you will assist participants with daily activities in our Day Program, transport participants to and from the program, and support community outings while promoting independence, dignity, and quality of life.
About Us: Certified Home Nursing Solutions LLC (CHNS) provides services to individuals with developmental disabilities who are residents of Wicomico County, Somerset County, Worcester County, Dorchester County, Caroline County, Talbot County, Cecil County, Queen Anne’s County, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, and Hartford County. CHNS offers Day Habilitation to individuals who reside in Wicomico County, Somerset County, and Worcester County. CHNS supports individuals with developmental disabilities in achieving their goals and independence while integrating within their communities. We provide services and programs to assist with increasing their quality of life.
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides essential support and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, promoting their independence, dignity, and quality of life. This role is critical in implementing person-centered care strategies in compliance with COMAR 10.22.02, ensuring that individuals receive the support they need in a safe and respectful environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Personal Support and Care:
o Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and mobility
o Implement individualized service plans (ISPs) that reflect the needs and preferences of each individual, promoting their autonomy and self-determination.
o Provide support in community integration and socialization, encouraging individuals to participate in recreational activities and use community resources.
2. Health and Safety Monitoring:
o Observe and document the health and safety of individuals, reporting any changes or concerns to supervisors and relevant medical personnel.
o Ensure a safe living and working environment, adhering to safety protocols, infection control practices, and emergency procedures.
o Assist with health-related tasks as delegated by nursing staff, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
3. Communication and Advocacy:
o Serve as an advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities, promoting their rights, preferences, and needs.
o Build positive relationships with individuals, families, and caregivers to foster open communication and trust.
o Assist in coordinating care with medical professionals and other service providers as needed.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain accurate records of services provided, including documentation of daily activities, health observations, and any incidents.
o Participate in team meetings and training sessions, contributing to the continuous improvement of service delivery.
o Complete required reports in compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
5. Professional Development:
o Engage in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to developmental disabilities.
o Stay updated on best practices and regulatory changes related to the care of individuals with developmental disabilities.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
· Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in a similar direct support role. (1-2 years of experience)
· Knowledge of COMAR 10.22.02 regulations and best practices in developmental disability support is a plus.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with individuals and their families.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in various situations.
· CPR and First Aid certification preferred; training may be provided.
