Glenwood is seeking Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to work in our Aging Residential Services program, supporting adults with developmental disabilities and age-related needs.

Our DSPs are the heartbeat of our organization. They provide care and companionship in a compassionate, professional manner with a positive attitude—ensuring residents receive individualized, person-centered care that promotes dignity, comfort, and well-being.

Primary Job Functions

  • Provide direct care for the individuals served, following each resident’s Individual Plan of Care (IPC), policies, and procedures, emphasizing non-averse, positive programming and interactions.
  • Provide support services for residents, staff, and facility.
  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, toileting (including use of bedpans, urinals, and commode chairs), grooming, mobility, and feeding, with sensitivity to age-related needs and limitations.
  • Support residents with aging-related care such as fall prevention, medication reminders, use of adaptive equipment, and monitoring for changes in health or mobility.
  • Transport/accompany residents to and from medical appointments, community activities, dining, and scheduled outings.
  • Safely operate and maintain facility vehicles as qualified and required.
  • Document care, services, and daily activities in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Cultivate and sustain a healthy, safe, and engaging home environment, ensuring cleanliness and comfort in all areas of the residence.
  • Perform home management functions such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, and laundry.
  • Support and promote each resident’s independence, personal choice, and participation in daily routines and recreational activities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work in a group home or home-like setting with adults experiencing both developmental and aging-related needs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly (verbally and in writing) with residents, family members, medical professionals, and team members.
  • Ability to handle the physical aspects of the job, including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking for extended periods.
  • Awareness of aging-related health concerns (such as dementia, mobility limitations, or chronic conditions) and willingness to learn best practices in elder care.
  • Must maintain state regulatory certifications, as required by program standards.
  • Medication Administration as required by state/program requirements.



Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities; experience supporting older adults or in long-term care is preferred.
  • Must have a valid Alabama driver’s license and be insurable through the agency’s insurance carrier.
  • Must be cleared through the Department of Human Resources Child/Adult Abuse & Neglect Registry as well as the ABI/FBI and pass all required pre-employment and background screenings

Additional Requirements

  • Must be certified or certifiable in CPR, First Aid, Managing Crisis Safely (MCS), and Medication Administration (MAC).
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work 4 days on / 4 days off, 12-hour day (7A–7P) or night (7P–7A) shifts, including weekends and holidays as scheduled, or other shifts as needed to meet program obligations
