Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field and 8+ years of Hardware Applications Engineering or Hardware Design experience or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field and 7+ years of Hardware Applications Engineering or Hardware Design experience or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field and 6+ years of Hardware Applications Engineering or Hardware Design experience or related work experience.

Principal DSP Application Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a Principal DSP Application Engineer to drive customer adoption and deployment of next-generation DSP in the Optical Transceiver and Active Electrical Cable (AEC) solutions for AI and cloud infrastructure. In this highly visible role, you will partner with hyperscale customers, switch OEMs, module vendors, and system architects to enable high-speed connectivity solutions supporting 100G/lane, 200G/lane, and 400G/lane PAM4 technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Engagement & Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the technical lead for strategic customers deploying Qualcomm DSP-enabled AEC and Optical Transceiver products.
  • Drive customer engagements from architecture evaluation through production deployment.
  • Lead technical design reviews, system bring-up, interoperability testing, and performance optimization activities.

Optical DSP & AEC Application Support

  • Support integration of Optical Transceiver and AEC solutions into AI clusters, switches, NICs, GPUs, and accelerator platforms.
  • Optimize DSP in the PAM4 link performance across optical channels, electrical channels, cable assemblies, retimers.
  • Develop application guidelines, reference designs, and deployment recommendations.

System-Level Debug & Validation

  • Lead root-cause analysis across optical channels, DSP, SerDes, PMIC, reference clock, firmware, and PCB channels.
  • Analyze eye diagrams, BER results, jitter measurements, equalization settings, and channel models.
  • Expert in IEEE 802.3 compliance testing methodology for optical and electrical channels

What you will need:

  • BS/MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in semiconductor, networking, or connectivity technologies.
  • Deep knowledge of PAM4 signaling, DSP-based equalization, SerDes architectures, Ethernet connectivity, and Signal integrity.
  • Deep knowledge of optical communications
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, BERTs, VNAs, and compliance tools
  • Expert in instrumentation automation using python or C.
  • Occasional travel is required (max 15%)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of optical transceiver architecture, optical component physics (Laser, EML, silicon photonics, Photodiode) and RF components (Driver and TIA)
  • Experience in optical transceiver design (schematic/mechanical/thermal/PCB)
  • Experience supporting hyperscale cloud customers.
  • Experience with DSP algorithms including CTLE, FFE, DFE, and adaptive equalization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
