Job Description

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Key Responsibilities

  • Metabolite Profiling & Identification: Conduct in vitro (e.g. microsomes, hepatocytes, S9, lysosome) and in vivo (e.g. plasma, urine, feces, bile, tumor tissue) metabolite identification studies across various species.

  • Mass Spectrometry Lead: Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain advanced LC-HRMS instrumentation (e.g., Orbitrap or Q-TOF).

  • Structural Elucidation: Interpret complex MS/MS fragmentation patterns to propose accurate chemical structures for metabolites.

  • Pathway Mapping: Propose biotransformation pathways and identify potential "soft spots" in chemical leads to guide medicinal chemistry efforts.

  • Reactive Metabolite Screening: Design and execute glutathione (GSH) trapping assays to assess potential idiosyncratic toxicity risks.

  • Regulatory & Reporting: Oversee and manage CRO partnerships to ensure the delivery of high-quality technical reports; provide expert MetID authorship and scientific review for IND/NDA regulatory filings.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Medicinal Chemistry, DMPK/PD Lead, and Clinical Pharmacology lead to communicate the impact of metabolic data on project strategy.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Educational Background: Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related, with 4+ years of experience; or an MS with 8+ years of dedicated industry experience in small molecules and/or ADC DMPK.

  • Technical Expertise: Proven mastery of liquid chromatography and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) for structure elucidation.

  • Biotransformation Expertise: Demonstrates a mastery of Phase I/II biotransformation pathways with the ability to translate in vitro metabolic data into predictive in vivo outcomes; experience navigating the unique MetID challenges of Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs) is a significant plus.

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to "distill the essence" of complex data for stakeholders at all levels.
