Reporting to the Coordinator, Recreation, this part-time position is responsible for ensuring all drop-in sports and skating participants experience an engaging, safe and enjoyable environment when attending a Town of Milton program. This role ensures adherence to entry guidelines, fair play and anticipates and reacts to customer concerns.

Major Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Program implementation with a focus on quality customer experiences

  • Foster a welcoming, respectful and safe environment for all participants

  • Ensure all participants have paid and meet entry requirements; this may include wearing wristbands, being of a specific age, etc.

  • Understand and ensure compliance of all established rules and guidelines governing the safety and conduct of participants

  • Organize pick-up games and activities (where applicable) and ensure fairness and equal playing time for all participants

  • Provide guidance and oversight to volunteers

  • Establish positive relationships and clear communication channels with all staff and participants

  • Maintain a safe and clean facility including proper usage and use of equipment. Proactively communicate program needs to operations staff and communicate facility or equipment deficiencies to Recreation Coordinator

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all program participants; evaluate situations for potential safety risks and proactively take action to address such risks. Communicate any action and/or concerns to Recreation Coordinator

  • Maintain communication with the Customer Service Desk to provide relevant program updates and to request support in the event of an emergency

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and handle sensitive situations with mature judgement

  • Provide suggestions to Coordinator, Recreation on ways to enhance the customer experience

  • Comply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act

  • Maintain and submit attendance records and/or drop-in stats

  • Report any incidents, concerns or site damage to Coordinator, Recreation, ensuring all appropriate forms are filled out accurately and completed

  • Submit required forms (including payroll)

  • Attend and participate in mandatory staff trainings and meetings

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of age

  • 2 years’ experience participating in or leading sport or skating programs within a recreation environments

  • Standard First Aid & CPR C

  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development (or willing to obtain)

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with persons with disabilities an asset
