In this role, you'll:


Transport for NSW is seeking five experienced DRIVES Tech Leads to support the ongoing delivery, modernisation, and support of the DRIVES Licensing platform, one of NSW's most critical regulatory systems.

These are fixed-term contract opportunities through to 30 June 2030, offering the opportunity to contribute to long-term regulatory and digital transformation initiatives across a large-scale, business-critical environment.

As a DRIVES Tech Lead, you will provide technical leadership across software development, support, and continuous improvement activities, ensuring solutions are reliable, secure, scalable, and aligned with evolving business and customer needs.

You will work across a complex application landscape, providing technical expertise and guidance to development teams, business stakeholders, architects, and delivery partners. The role involves leading technical delivery across the full software development lifecycle while maintaining operational stability across critical licensing and regulatory services.

You will:

Lead the design, development, enhancement, and support of DRIVES applications and services.
Provide technical leadership and guidance across software delivery and operational support activities.
Translate functional and non-functional requirements into robust software designs and technical specifications.
Drive software quality through design reviews, development standards, testing, and continuous improvement practices.
Support application releases, deployments, upgrades, and development updates.
Oversee troubleshooting, root cause analysis, defect management, and issue resolution activities.
Work collaboratively with technical and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Mentor technical team members and contribute to capability building across the broader team.
Identify opportunities to leverage new technologies and modern development approaches to improve platform performance and delivery outcomes.

Working within a dynamic environment, you will balance project delivery priorities with operational support requirements while ensuring the platform continues to meet reliability, performance, and customer service expectations.

About you


You are an experienced Technical Lead, Senior Software Engineer, Lead Developer, or Application Specialist with a strong background delivering software solutions within large and complex organisations.

You bring strong technical capability together with leadership experience, and you are comfortable operating across both project delivery and operational support environments.

You will have:

Demonstrated experience delivering enterprise software solutions across the full software development lifecycle.
Strong technical design and development experience within complex application environments.
Proven ability to lead technical teams and influence software delivery outcomes.
Experience translating business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions.
Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
Experience supporting application releases, upgrades, testing, and production deployments.
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
A proactive approach to quality, continuous improvement, and technology innovation.
The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining delivery quality and operational stability.
