Driver's Education Classroom Instructor

Westonka Community Education

Pay Rate: $35.00 - 43.00 per hour DOQ; eligible for sick time

Part-Time

Westonka Community Education is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Driver's Education Classroom Instructor to provide the required 30 hours of in-person classroom instruction to teen students preparing to obtain their Minnesota driver's permit.

This is a classroom-only position and does not include behind-the-wheel instruction.

The ideal instructor will create an engaging, supportive classroom environment and help students develop the knowledge, decision-making skills, and understanding necessary to become safe and responsible drivers. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with teenagers and can make the Driver's Education curriculum relevant, interactive, and engaging.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the required 30 hours of in-person Driver's Education classroom instruction in accordance with Minnesota Driver Education requirements.
  • Follow the required Minnesota Driver's Education curriculum and standards.
  • Prepare students for the Minnesota driver's permit knowledge examination.
  • Provide the required Parent Information Session and Resources.
  • Administer or proctor required knowledge testing.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance and completion records.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with students, parents, and Westonka Community Education staff.
  • Create a positive, respectful, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Present Driver's Education material in a way that supports a variety of learning styles and student needs.
  • Complete required documentation for students who successfully complete the classroom portion of Driver's Education.
  • Follow all Westonka Community Education policies, procedures, and expectations.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a valid Minnesota teaching license in Driver and Traffic Safety Education, consistent with Minnesota Rule 8710.4350.
  • Must meet the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) requirements for licensure as a Teacher of Driver and Traffic Safety.
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university, as required under Minnesota Rule 8710.4350.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach and engage high school-aged students.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • Previous Driver's Education teaching experience preferred.

Important Position Information

  • $35.00 - 43.00 per hour
  • Part-time, as scheduled by Westonka Community Education
  • 30-hour classroom component only
  • No behind-the-wheel instruction is required
  • Classes may be scheduled during evenings, weekends, school breaks, or summer based on program needs.
