Job Description
The Driver Safety Specialist administers OSCO’s driver safety program across a regional, multi-site fleet. This role works to improve driver behavior, reduce preventable incidents, and mitigate organizational risk through proactive monitoring, coaching and data‑driven interventions. It combines hands‑on driver engagement, structured incident review and advanced use of telematics and in‑cab camera data to strengthen the safety culture while balancing operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Act as the subject‑matter expert for driver telematics and in‑cab camera systems (LYTX, OnStar, GeoTab)
- Create driver scorecards to identify trends, risks, and coaching opportunities
- Drive consistent, effective use of telematics for proactive intervention, post‑incident review and continuous improvement
- Closely partner with Operations teams to optimize configurations, reporting and governance of overall Driver Safety Program
- Conduct structured reviews with drivers regarding safety events, performance trends and program expectations
- Coach drivers, assign corrective training and document outcomes per policy
- Recommend retraining, increased monitoring, suspension, or termination as needed in alignment with leadership expectations
- Maintain regular, visible presence in the field to build credibility and trust with drivers and Operational leadership
- Lead or support post‑incident investigations (telematics/video review, statements, contributing factors) and provide clear summaries and recommendations for leadership review
- Support continuous improvement by translating incident learnings into preventative actions, training updates or system changes
- Deliver driver safety training (toolbox talks/refreshers), provide field coaching at branches/sites and maintain professional development in driver safety and telematics
Technical Requirements
- Previous commercial driving experience
- Strong working knowledge of fleet telematics and in‑cab camera systems and how to apply data for coaching and risk reduction
- Proven experience in driver safety, fleet safety, transportation safety, or a related field, ideally within a large or multi‑site fleet environment
Business Requirements
- Experience interacting directly with professional drivers and frontline operations
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to balance firmness, fairness, and respect in difficult conversations
- Background in incident investigation, driver coaching and safety program implementation is an asset
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into clear, actionable recommendations is an asset
