Job Category Nonprofit - Social Services

Position is responsible for providing direct transportation services for children or adults to school, center or program related activities and food service delivery for the Head Start Program. Primarily responsible for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the children, staff and volunteers during bus transportation to and from the center and on field trips. Position must ensure that the school bus is in good operating condition at all times, pick up and drop off students as per the schedule, maintain order and security on the bus and obey all laws, regulations and rules of conduct. This position is responsible for ensuring program compliance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards regarding transportation services and with local, state and federal regulations.



Qualifications

  1. Must be 21 years of age, have a high school diploma, GED, or be actively pursuing GED.
  2. Must have a good driving record. No at-fault traffic accidents in the last 5 years.
  3. Should have general record keeping ability and knowledge of service area is desirable.
  4. Must be willing to submit to drug and alcohol testing upon request, in accordance with federal, state, and agency regulations.
  5. Must meet any physical, mental and other requirements as necessary to perform job-related functions with any necessary reasonable accommodations.
  6. Must complete training prior to transporting any enrolled child and annual refresher training which includes: classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel instruction sufficient to enable the driver to operate the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner, to safely run a fixed route, to administer basic first aid in case of injury, and to handle emergency situations, including vehicle evacuation, operate any special equipment, such as wheelchair lifts, assistance devices or special occupant restraints, conduct routine maintenance and safety checks of the vehicle, and maintain accurate records as necessary.
