Job Category: TransportationJOB SUMMARY:
The Driver Assistant partners with the Donation Pickup Driver to safely collect donations from donors throughout central Arizona. This role is responsible for loading, securing, and unloading donations while providing exceptional customer service and representing Habitat for Humanity in a professional manner. The Driver Assistant helps maximize the value of donated goods by handling items with care, maintaining a safe work environment, and supporting the daily operations of the ReStore. Every donation collected contributes directly to funding Habitat for Humanity's mission of creating affordable homeownership opportunities for local families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist the Donation Pickup Driver with the safe and efficient pickup, loading, transportation, and unloading of donated items.
- Provide exceptional customer service by interacting with donors in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner while representing Habitat for Humanity.
- Evaluate donated items with the driver to ensure they meet Habitat ReStore donation acceptance guidelines.
- Safely lift, carry, move, and load heavy or bulky items using proper lifting techniques and material handling equipment.
- Secure donations in the truck to prevent damage during transportation.
- Assist with navigation and communication to ensure pickup routes are completed efficiently and on schedule.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including keeping the donation truck clean and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Follow all organizational safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report damaged items, safety concerns, accidents, or donor issues to the Driver or supervisor promptly.
- Assist with unloading donations at the ReStore and staging merchandise according to operational procedures.
- Support warehouse and ReStore operations as needed when not assigned to donation pickup routes.
- Accurately complete required paperwork or electronic documentation related to donation pickups, as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with drivers, warehouse staff, volunteers, and other team members to accomplish daily operational goals.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality while demonstrating flexibility to work overtime or adjusted schedules when business needs require.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of ReStore operations and Habitat for Humanity's mission.

QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or HiSet/GED required.
- Previous experience in moving, delivery, warehouse, retail, logistics, customer service, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Experience safely lifting and moving furniture, appliances, or other large items is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS:

- Some of the job takes place in Retail warehouse operation. The cooling is adequate in the summer, but it will get hot and muggy at times during summer months.  Winter gets a little cold, dress warm in layers in the winter.
- Most of the job takes place in a large box truck and at donor sites and occasional office or classroom settings.
- Dress code is casual and comfortable; no sandals or open shoes allowed, and company shirts will be provided.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
- Proficient in or able to learn the use of standard office equipment, including computers, printers, telephones, copiers, calculators, tablets, and other communication devices.
- Ability to safely operate material handling equipment and tools, including forklifts pallet jacks, hand trucks, dollies, furniture straps, hand tools, power tools, and other equipment used in donation pickup and warehouse operations.
- Ability to use cellular phones, mobile applications, and electronic devices for communication, navigation, scheduling, and documentation.
- Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license with an acceptable driving record and maintain reliable transportation to and from the assigned work location.
