Driver and Traffic Safety Education Teacher - Seaford High School - TEMPORARY for the 2026-2027 School Year

Essential Functions

  • Develops and administers school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for art instruction.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student skills and learning;
  • Demonstrates techniques in driver and traffic safety.
  • Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
  • Evaluates each pupil's performance and growth.
  • Provides instruction and in-car training in all aspects of driver and traffic safety education.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom and in automobile.
  • Coordinates with other school professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, art materials, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.


Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Use standard office equipment such as; personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Use of automobile and related traffic safety materials.

Travel Requirements

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Qualifications Profile

Certification/License:

  • Delaware State Certification as a Driver Education and Traffic Safety Education Teacher or as required for position. Information about Delaware Certification/Licensure can be found on the Delaware Department of Education website: https://deeds.doe.k12.de.us/
    • Successful candidates must provide evidence of successful PRAXIS II scores or a valid out of state teaching license. An educator applying for a license in the State of DE with less than 1 year of experience will be placed on an Initial License and will be required to take and pass a Performance Assessment by the end of their 2nd year of teaching. Applicants with one completed year of experience, but less than 4 years of experience will receive an Initial License and are NOT required to pass a Performance Assessment (with proof of current and valid out of state license). Current holders of an Initial license are exempt from requirements to pass a Performance Assessment.

  • An educator shall also have met the following:

    4.1 Education requirements:

    4.1.1 A minimum of twenty-one (21) credits, taken either as part of a degree program or in addition to it from a regionally accredited college or university, or their equivalent in professional development approved by the Department in the following areas:

    4.1.1.1 Human Development (3 credits);

    4.1.1.2 Identifying and Treating Exceptionalities (3 credits);

    4.1.1.3 Effective Teaching Strategies (3 credits);

    4.1.1.4 Cultural Diversity (3 credits);

    4.1.1.5 Driver Education, Methods and Materials (3 credits);

    4.1.1.6 Driver Education, In Car Training (3 credits); and

    4.1.1.7 Three (3) credits selected from one (1) of the following areas:

    4.1.1.7.1 Alcohol and Drug Education (3 credits);

    4.1.1.7.2 Current Issues in Driver Education (3 credits);

    4.1.1.7.3 Problems in Driver and Safety Education (3 credits);

    4.1.1.7.4 First Aid (3 credits);

    4.1.1.7.5 Teaching Students with Disabilities (3 credits); or

    4.1.1.7.6 Education for Safe Living (3 credits).

    4.2 Driver's License Requirements.

    4.2.1 The applicant shall hold a valid driver's license.

    4.2.2 The applicant's driving record shall have no more than five (5) points total from Delaware or any other jurisdiction at the time of application.

    4.2.3 The applicant's driver's license shall not have been suspended, revoked or disqualified in Delaware or any other jurisdiction in the last five (5) years and the applicant's driver's license shall remain valid for the duration of the applicant's employment under this Standard Certificate.

    4.3 The educator shall notify the Department immediately if they fail to meet the Driver's License Requirements.

Education

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

    Note: All temporary positions will end on June 30th.

    NUMBER OF MONTHS/DAYS: 10 Month - 188 Days
    Note: Months/days will be pro-rated to start date.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Teacher Certification - Delaware Code Title 14 Section 1500

    NOTE: A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required for all employees of the Seaford School District.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: All new state employees will be required to participate in the State of Delaware's Direct Deposit system. With direct deposit, wage and salary payments are deposited in the employee's bank account via electronic funds transfer.
