Job Description

The Medivan Driver at United Health Services (UHS) plays an important role in helping patients stay connected to the care they need by providing safe, reliable transportation across hospital and community settings. Through a compassionate, service-focused approach, this role helps create a positive experience for patients and families while supporting care coordination and clinical teams. The Medivan Driver contributes to an environment where every connection matters, ensuring each patient is treated with dignity, respect, and care throughout their journey.

$17.05 - $22.17 per hour, depending on experience

Job Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Safely transport patients, equipment, supplies, and decedents between hospital departments and external locations to support timely, coordinated care delivery
  • Operate Medivan and departmental vehicles, including hydraulic lifts, in accordance with safety standards, traffic laws, and organizational policies
  • Assist patients with transfers to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds while maintaining dignity, comfort, and safety
  • Provide courteous, compassionate, and professional customer service to patients, families, and clinical staff during all transport interactions
  • Utilize electronic devices and applications to document transports, routes, and required operational data accurately and in real time
  • Perform routine cleaning, inspection, and basic maintenance checks of vehicles and transport equipment to ensure readiness and reliability

Scope and Impact:

  • Support patient flow, operational efficiency, and overall patient experience through reliable and timely transportation services
  • Exercise judgment within defined procedures to prioritize safety, escalate issues, and respond appropriately to routine operational challenges
  • Work under general supervision with accountability for assigned routes, schedules, documentation accuracy, and service quality

Compliance and Professional:

  • Maintain a valid driver license and clean driving record and, when operating a personal vehicle for business purposes, current vehicle registration and automobile insurance
  • Complete required safety, HIPAA, customer service, and equipment training within established timeframes and maintain ongoing competency
  • Adhere to all motor vehicle regulations, hospital policies, and documentation standards to support regulatory compliance and risk mitigation
  • Safeguard sensitive data by following established security policies and procedures, using systems responsibly, and promptly reporting potential security incidents, risks, or policy violations
  • As applicable to your role, support cybersecurity and data protection requirements throughout the supplier lifecycle by coordinating vendor risk assessments, monitoring third-party compliance, and promptly reporting identified supply chain or cybersecurity risks

Additional Expectations:

  • Support cross-coverage across Supply Chain (e.g., dispatching, mailroom, linen, materials management, driving support where applicable) to meet operational needs and ensure reliable service delivery
  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and courteously to build dependable working relationships and deliver responsive internal customer service

  • Execute responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required to meet department and organizational needs

Position Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Driver License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (may be obtained within 6 months of hire)

Preferred:

  • At least 1 year of direct experience performing the exact or very similar duties required by the job within the same role or function
  • Up to 1 year of customer/patient-facing experience directly interacting and communicating with the public
  • Up to 1 year of healthcare experience working in the healthcare industry in any job function
