Job Brief:

This position will be an employee of Lutheran World Relief. The RISE Fund project strengthens disaster preparedness, governance, and resilience in Nepal's most vulnerable provinces, Karnali and Sudurpaschim. The program runs across multiple sectors to reduce humanitarian risks and build inclusive disaster risk management systems.

The program has four interlinked components:
•Emergency Preparedness & Coordination - establishing rapid response teams, provincial search and rescue units, and activating emergency operations centers.
•Shelter & Relief Support - pre-positioning emergency supplies, constructing temporary shelters, and ensuring rapid deployment within 24-72 hours after disasters.
•Health & WASH Services - training health workers, deploying mobile medical camps, distributing dignity kits, and restoring safe water and sanitation systems.
•Protection & Logistics - providing mental health and psychosocial support, safeguarding vulnerable groups, and creating an emergency transportation fund for rapid deployment.

The project aims to work with the provincial government to enable them to target 13 priority districts and 116 municipalities, directly benefiting over 30,000 individuals and indirectly reaching more than 500,000 people.

Reporting to the Administration and Finance Officer, the Driver will provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for staff, visitors, and goods, supporting office operations and field activities. The role focuses on driving duties and basic vehicle care, and is based in the Nepal Country Office.

Responsibilities:

• Operate program vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
• Safely drive staff, visitors, and goods to designated destinations.
• Follow assigned schedules and routes efficiently.
• Ensure vehicles are well maintained, clean, fueled, and in good mechanical condition.
• Conduct basic checks on vehicles (tires, oil, water, brakes, lights) and report any maintenance needs.
• Maintain logbooks for mileage, fuel consumption, and trips.
• Assist with loading and unloading of office supplies, equipment, or cargo.
• Follow traffic laws, organizational policies, and safety regulations.
• Provide support during field missions or events as requested.
• Perform minor errands, such as document or package delivery.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Supervisory:

This role has no direct reports.

Education & Experience:

• Completion of secondary education required; vocational training in driving/vehicle maintenance preferred.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• At least one (1) year professional driving experience including work with NGOs, UN agencies or other international organizations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of local roads, traffic rules, and security considerations.
• Basic mechanical skills and ability to perform minor repairs.
• Good communication skills and courteous, professional conduct.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, especially when transporting staff or sensitive materials.
• Basic English skills and fluency in Nepali language is desired
• Good interpersonal and customer-service skills.
• Basic literacy and numeracy; ability to read and write.
• Punctual, polite, and service-oriented attitude.
• Knowledge of some administrative operations and office procedures.
• Ability to work part of a team.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

• The physical requirements that may be needed to execute responsibilities may include bending, standing, and walking, etc.
• The mental requirements that are essential to satisfactorily executing the responsibilities outlined in this job description include, but not limited to: learning new tasks, comprehending, and retaining information, completing tasks independently, effectively communicating verbally and in writing, demonstrating proficiency in using computer software to perform assigned tasks.

Working Conditions, Travel and Environment:

• The employee must be available to work outside normal office hours or on the weekends as required.
• This position must be able to travel as required for standard domestic and international business purposes. While performing the duties of this job in different locations, the employee may be exposed to precarious settings under high-security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather conditions, as well as to infectious diseases.
• If applicable, must have authorization to work in the country of assignment.
