Job Description

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Driver will be required to transport elderly clients on regularly scheduled routes to various destinations. Escort and assist the elderly and infirm clients from their homes to the vehicle and back.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Transport elderly clients on regularly scheduled routes from their homes to destinations such as senior centers, supermarkets, shopping malls, medical appointments as determined by the Director or other assigned staff.
* Escort and assist the elderly and infirm clients from their homes to the vehicle and back, if necessary.
* Ensure the safety of the passengers through the use of seat belts, wheelchair brackets and other safety devices.
* Keep daily gasoline and mileage records.
* Pick up and return vehicle to parking place daily.
* Maintain program reports including the completion of daily route sheets
* Operate and maintain a 2-way radio in the agency vehicle.
* Collect and record participant’s contributions.
* Keep the inside of the Agency vehicle clean.
* Oversee the maintenance, repair and external cleaning of the vehicles (gas, oil, changing tires, car wash, etc.).
* Inspect vehicle daily and report any operational or structure defects immediately to supervisor
* Perform other program tasks assigned when clients cancel and routes are underutilized.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* High School Diploma or GED preferred.
* Valid New York State Driver’s License (Class D) and provision of printout of annual Driving Record from Motor Vehicle Bureau.
* Three (3) years driving experience with no more than one moving violation within a 24 month period, no driving while intoxicated convictions.
* Knowledge of roadways in the area where program operates.
* Demonstrate sensitivity and an ability to relate to the elderly with patience and flexibility.
* Attended or will attend cultural and LGBT sensitive training.
* Ability to read, write and speak English is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Ability to drive vehicle for long periods of time
* Ability to get in and out of vehicle frequently
* Ability to assist older clients in and out of agency vehicles
* Able to lift 25 lbs
* Able to stretch and bend
* Frequent walking, sitting, talking and hearing
* Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling and crouching
* Ability to read printed materials and write
