Position Type: Supplemental

Work Schedule: Afterschool, evenings, weekends, and performance dates as required

Compensation: 4 points at $653 a point = $2612.00

Position Summary

The Drama Coach #2 works collaboratively with the Director in the development, staging, rehearsal, and production of the school's theatrical production. This position functions in a co-director capacity with primary responsibility for assigned choreography, staging, movement, transitions, and theatrical technique.

The Drama Coach #2 provides independent leadership for assigned scenes, sequences, choreography, and movement while maintaining close communication and collaboration with the Drama Director. The Drama Director retains final responsibility and decision-making authority for major artistic, casting, and overall production decisions.

The position requires flexibility to attend after-school, evening, and weekend rehearsals, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Collaborate with the Director in the planning, development, staging, and execution of the theatrical production.
  2. Create, teach, and revise choreography and movement appropriate to the production, ensemble, and individual student needs.
  3. Block assigned scenes, musical numbers, sequences, and stage movement.
  4. Independently lead rehearsals for assigned scenes, sequences, choreography, and movement.
  5. Coach students in acting techniques, movement, character development, stage presence, and performance skills.
  6. Work collaboratively with the Director, stage manager, technical crew, and student participants to coordinate staging, props, costumes, set changes, and transitions.
  7. Assist in developing effective and efficient rehearsal practices that promote a focused, respectful, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  8. Provide constructive feedback and coaching to students to support individual growth and overall production quality.
  9. Assist in maintaining and advancing the level of artistic and production excellence established by the Octorara Area School District.
  10. Attend required blocking rehearsals, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, performances, and other production-related activities as assigned.
  11. Communicate effectively and consistently with the Director regarding rehearsal progress, student needs, production challenges, and assigned responsibilities.
  12. Support the Drama Director in maintaining a safe, professional, and positive environment for all students involved in the production.
  13. Perform other duties related to the production as assigned by the Director or administration.

Required Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the Director, students, cast, crew, and other production personnel.
  2. Experience directing, co-directing, producing, staging, or otherwise supporting theatrical productions.
  3. Knowledge and demonstrated ability in blocking, staging, choreography, movement, transitions, and theatrical technique.
  4. Ability to develop and implement effective rehearsal techniques and maintain focused, productive, and respectful rehearsals.
  5. Ability to independently lead rehearsals and provide clear direction to students.
  6. Knowledge of theatrical production elements, including costumes, props, set movement, and stage transitions.
  7. Previous experience working with school, community, collegiate, or professional theatrical productions.
  8. Ability to work collaboratively while also assuming independent responsibility for assigned production components.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with middle or high school students in a theatrical or performing arts setting.
  • Experience with musical theatre, choreography, movement, or ensemble performance.
  • Formal education, training, or professional experience in theatre, drama, dance, performing arts, or a related field.

Working Conditions

The position requires work outside of the regular school day, including after-school hours, evenings, weekends, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances. The position may require extended periods of standing, walking, movement, and participation in rehearsal and staging activities.
