Job Description

The Drafter II is responsible for independently executing drafting and documentation tasks in support of electro-mechanical product design. This role builds upon foundational drafting skills by applying design standards, understanding product structures, and ensuring accuracy across drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation.

The Drafter II works closely with Design Engineers and cross-functional teams to support Sales Orders, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and standard product updates, while contributing to improved quality and efficiency within the engineering process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

• Independently create and modify detailed 2D and 3D drawings using SolidWorks based on engineering input and established standards.
• Update and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), assemblies, and part structures within ERP (Epicor) and PDM systems.
• Execute Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), ensuring all associated drawings, parts, and documentation are updated accurately.
• Apply company drafting and design standards to all deliverables, ensuring consistency and manufacturability.
• Support Sales Orders by preparing complete and accurate drawing packages for production release.
• Review drawings for completeness and identify discrepancies or errors prior to release.
• Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Planning to resolve drawing-related issues and clarify design intent.
• Maintain data integrity across CAD, PDM, and ERP systems.
• Assist in the development and refinement of drafting standards, templates, and best practices.
• Participate in peer reviews and incorporate feedback to continuously improve output quality.
• Support standard product updates and contribute to ongoing standardization efforts.

• Proficient in SolidWorks (or similar CAD software) with strong understanding of assemblies, configurations, and drawings.
• Solid understanding of drafting standards, GD&T basics, and manufacturing considerations.
• Experience working with BOMs, part structures, and revisions within ERP (Epicor preferred) and PDM systems.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all deliverables.
• Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
• Ability to identify and resolve basic design and documentation issues.
• Familiarity with UL standards and electrical/mechanical product design is a plus.

EDUCATION:

• Associate’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field required (or equivalent experience).
• 2–5 years of drafting experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment preferred.
