We’re a mid-sized, employee-owned company on a mission to create meaningful value for both our employees and our customers. That means we’re not just looking for someone to fill a seat — we’re looking for someone who wants to build, innovate, and evolve with us.

Our company primarily serves the Navy and other Department of Defense clients, offering a dynamic environment where your expertise will make a difference.

About the Role

AVIAN is searching for a Drafter to join our team in support of our Department of Defense customer. The ideal candidate will bring strong attention to detail, technical aptitude, and experience developing and maintaining accurate engineering drawings and technical documentation. This role will work closely with engineers, technical teams, and Government stakeholders to create, revise, and maintain drawings and models using SolidWorks and other computer-aided design (CAD) tools.

Responsibilities

Minimum Requirements:

  • Review engineering data, sketches, specifications, existing drawings, and other technical information to develop accurate and complete drawings.
  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create and modify 2D and 3D drawings and models.
  • Incorporate engineering changes, redlines, markups, and technical feedback into drawings and associated documentation.
  • Analyze drawings and technical data to identify discrepancies, inconsistencies, or potential design and documentation issues.
  • Work with engineers, technical personnel, and Government stakeholders to clarify requirements and ensure drawings accurately reflect intended designs.
  • Perform calculations, measurements, and dimensional analysis as necessary to support drafting activities.
  • Ensure drawings are prepared in accordance with applicable standards, specifications, established drafting practices, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain drawing accuracy, revision history, configuration control, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with the development of solutions to technical drawing and documentation challenges.
  • Prepare technical information, findings, and recommendations for review by Government and engineering personnel.
  • Support the organization, maintenance, and retrieval of engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Perform other drafting and technical documentation support activities as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2–3 years of experience providing drafting, technical, engineering, operational, or related support.
  • Proficiency or demonstrated experience with SolidWorks is required.
  • Familiarity or experience with AutoCAD, NX, CREO, and Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, create, and revise engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Ability to understand dimensions, tolerances, specifications, and other technical information contained within engineering drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and maintain accurate technical documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, technical personnel, Government representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple drawing revisions and priorities while maintaining accuracy and configuration control.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
  • Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
