GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs routine (journey-level) software testing and quality assurance work. The intern will work closely with the Quality Assurance Team to learn and understand the software development life cycle (SDLC) by assisting in translating requirements into test cases and analyzing testing results. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES:
• Must be enrolled in an academic bachelor or post-graduate program at an educational institution listed in the US Department of Education’s Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs with plans to enroll in classes the following semester.
• Must be taking classes towards a Computer Science or Computer Security related field.
• Must be available to work on-site for the duration of the internship, with the possibility of remote work as appropriate.
• Must be a US citizen.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Assist in creating manual test cases based on software requirements to provide traceability.

2.Help execute functional, system, and regression testing of proprietary and custom software.

3.Learn to report and track software defects using issue-tracking tools like Atlassian Jira.

4.Assist in the verification of fixes and perform follow-up activities to ensure issues are resolved.

5.Help track test metrics and contribute to the generation of status reports.

6.Participate in design specification reviews and observe defect triage meetings.

7.Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency policies.

8.Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:

Education – Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with taking classes towards a Computer Science or Computer Security related field.

Experience – None.

Licensure and/or Certification - Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.

Critical Organizational Infrastructure requirements – This job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure; must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role. Additionally, and more specifically, must not be employed by nor have any connection or continuous connections to any governmental entity or political apparatus of a country listed in 15 C.F.R. §791.4

Regulatory knowledgeAbility to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS regulations, policies, and procedures.

Interpersonal Skills – Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.

Presentation/Communication Skills – Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations to a variety of audiences and/or individuals.

Research and Comprehension – Must demonstrate ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information and be able to utilize and/or present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner.

Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail – Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems.

Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) – Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems.Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Confidentiality and Protected Information – Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information.

A DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group and state title will be transferred with no salary change.

A DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receivean increase of no more than 3.4% over their current salary regardless of posted salary.

Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.
