Job Description

Some of the most legendary engines and compressors ever built are still running today, and they are running because skilled machinists keep them alive. At Cooper Machinery Services, you will turn blueprints into precision one-off parts and tooling for equipment with a heritage dating back to 1833, including Cooper-Bessemer™, Ajax™, and Superior™. Your work supports our turbocharger service business and Aftermarket team, keeping customers in Oil & Gas, Power, Transportation, and Marine up and running around the world. If you take pride in tight tolerances and true hands-on manual machining, this is a place where your craft matters every single day.

What you will do

  • Independently set up and run manual lathes, mills, and drills to machine one-off parts and tooling to specification
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and job cards to determine dimensions, tolerances, machining time, and quantities
  • Repair and restore parts that support our turbocharger service business
  • Lay out and inspect finished parts to confirm they conform to prints and routing instructions, and complete the required documentation
  • Align and secure fixtures, cutting tools, jaws, and materials; monitor feeds and speeds; adjust machine offsets such as wear, geometry, and cutter compensation
  • Apply surface finishes, deburr, and stamp parts to specification
  • Use advanced trade mathematics to work through complex drawings and specifications
  • Flex across multiple machine types and partner with the Aftermarket team to meet customer needs
  • Work safely every day: follow PPE and safety rules, use proper lifting techniques, keep machine guards in place, and maintain a clean, organized work area

Who you are

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited school or institution
  • 5–8 years of manual machining experience, ideally in oil & gas, power, heavy equipment, or automation & controls
  • Advanced knowledge of precision measuring tools, including dial and Vernier calipers, ID mics, depth mics, and ball mics
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort with various types of metal cutting machinery
  • Ability to read, evaluate, and respond to product specifications and complex drawings, with solid quality control habits
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, plus basic math and computer skills
  • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and perform physical work involving standing, bending, and kneeling
  • Adaptable in a team environment as work needs change
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required

You also bring the Cooper competencies: safety focused, service-oriented, business focused, a self-starter, dependable, a strong team player, results oriented, and a sense of urgency.

Preferred

  • Certification to operate a forklift, pallet jack, and crane
  • Vo-Tech certificate
  • Knowledge of oilfield assemblies and parts

Don't meet every preferred qualification? Apply anyway. If you have the core machining skills, we want to hear from you.
