Job Profile

This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patientsIn addition, this role focuses on performing the following Therapeutic Radiation duties: Prepares patients and administering radiation treatments for cancer and some other conditions. Takes precise measurements of patients for treatments and takes the proper steps to protect the patients and themselves from improper exposure to radiationA professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programsThe majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education An experienced level role that applies practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experienceWorks independently with general supervision, problems faced are difficult but typically not complex, and may influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies and practices.

Under the supervision of the Senior Radiation Physicist and the Director Radiation Oncology performs services in Radiation Oncology according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and hospital. This position works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health careDirectly responsible for all aspects of clinical dosimetry in Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics including 2D and 3D treatment planning, for external beams, LDR, and HDR Brach therapy, stereotactic radiation therapy and radio surgery.

Minimum Qualifications

1.Bachelor’s degree in Physical Sciences

2.Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD)

3.Five (5) years of experience in medical dosimetry.

Duties and Responsibilities The duties and responsibilities listedbelow are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive listOther duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1.Reviews and evaluates patients’ treatment records to insure accuracy and completeness in keeping with Cancer Care Center weekly Physics QI/Patient Record Review Procedure.

2.Develops patient’s radiotherapy treatment plans by incorporating dosimetric and patient specific data, the latter including simulation and related diagnostic studies and the attending physician’s desires.

3.Designs and fabricates various customized patient treatment equipment including immobilizers and shields.

4.Consults with attending physician in the interest of optimizing the treatment plan in accordance with the physician’s prescription and treatment intent.

5.Monitors prescription completeness, second check of dosimetric calculations, and acceptance of isodose plans in accordance with American College of Radiology (ACR) Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards.

6.Oversees and facilitates implementation of treatment plans by technologists.

7.Assists with Block making and MLC design as necessary.

8.Assists with brachtherapy source management and implants, as needed.

9.Assists in formulating written procedures as required

10.Reports all work performed to the Medical Physicist to ensure complete and accurate patient billing. Enter appropriate billing codes with correct documentation for services rendered

11.Provides a second check on dose calculations.

12.Performs weekly chart checks.

13.Understands & complies with Cancer Care Center policies and procedures (safety, etc).

14.Attends orientations, in-service reviews, staff meetings, etc. as required

15.Participates in Quality Assessment & Improvement projects, teams and reporting as required

16.Conducts duties in accordance with the ethical standards of the organization and practices established by licensing and/or certifying agencies.

17.Maintains strict patient confidentiality.

18.Maintainsproficiency through continuing education including attendance of relevant professional conferences.

Physical Requirements

1.Frequent sitting, occasional standing & walking, and lifting of 5-10 lbs.

2. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate computer keyboard or equipment.

3. Hearing and visual sufficient to perform examinations, observe patients, read monitors and documents, hear equipment.

Skills & Abilities:

1.An in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology

2. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

3. Attention to detail is required for ensuring patient education, safety, comfort as well as discussing clinical situations with physicians

4. Ability to concentrate while treating patients.

5. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.

6. Ability to work independently to perform exams and will seek out assistance from others and supervisor as necessary.

7. Displays good judgment and works through a problem with creativity and remains focused and professional.

8. Responds to change and/or stats in the work schedule in a calm and appropriate manner

9. Demonstrates cooperation with co-workers and management to ensure an atmosphere that is conductive to high quality patient’s care.

$122,301.82 - $155,933.24
