Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Six months of experience working in a retail store
  • Familiar with desktop computer applications
  • Available to work weekends
  • Resume attached to application

Preferences:

  • One year of experience working in a retail store
  • Six months of experience working as an assistant store manager or store manager
  • Prior work or volunteer experience in a museum or museum store

Duties and Responsibilities:

Florida’s History Shop is the retail store of the Museum of Florida History. Florida’s History Shop consists of three locations—the Museum of Florida History, the Capitol, and the Florida Historic Capitol Museum—and an online store (FloridasHistoryShop.com). We are seeking a full-time Assistant Manager to carry out all functions of the stores. Working under the store manager, the Assistant Manager will staff the stores as needed, train sales associates, perform inventory, set up displays, and participate in all other store functions. The assistant manager must be able to provide excellent service to customers.

  • Handle cash transactions
  • Fulfill online orders
  • Provide excellent customer service to all visitors to the stores
  • Oversee the Florida Flag Program
  • Conduct opening and closing procedures for museum stores
  • Provide staffing at stores, including making sales to customers
  • Assist gift shop manager with merchandise deliveries, pricing, adding merchandise to the point-of-sale system, and inventory
  • Assist gift shop manager with employee scheduling, funds requests, ordering, receiving invoices, and organizing documentation related to sales and inventory purchases
  • Assist with merchandising the stores
  • Train new sales associates
  • Create reports as requested, including but not limited to sales reports and monthly activities reports
  • Oversee the stores in the absence of the store manager
  • Other office and administrative duties as directed by store manager

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work some weekends and evenings if needed
  • Ability to lift, push, or carry items up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, stretch, and twist
  • Ability to travel between the three stores
