Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or Maritime Studies, or related field or minimum 6 years professional underwater archaeological fieldwork experience
  • Successfully completed a scientific diving training program (AAUS or equivalent)
  • Boat experience that includes launching, trailering, and operating vessels
  • GIS experience

Preferences:

  • Knowledge of pertinent state and federal submerged cultural resource legislation
  • Experience conducting submerged cultural resource surveys
  • Geophysical data acquisition and analysis
  • Regulatory experience
  • Knowledge of the types and distribution of Florida’s submerged pre-contact and historic archaeological sites
  • Technical archaeological experience including: laboratory management, cataloging, artifact documentation
  • Public speaking experience
  • Vessel/equipment maintenance and repair

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct submerged cultural resource surveys and research on state lands
  • Engage in geophysical analysis and reporting
  • Conduct reviews of: management plans, applications and reports
  • Manage archaeological databases
  • Maintenance and upkeep of BAR research vessels
  • Perform other work-related duties as required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Florida’s submerged archaeological record
  • Knowledge of underwater archaeological field techniques
  • Ability to conduct underwater archaeological surveys
  • Ability to work underwater on SCUBA
  • Ability to travel
