Position Title: Door Technician

Department: Facilities

Classification: Non-Exempt

FTE: 1.0

Work Schedule: The standard 40-hour work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; flexible work arrangements can be proposed and are subject to approval by HR and relevant supervisors; occasional evening or weekend work as need required; serve on an on-call rotation basis for after-hour and weekend emergencies; travel up to 10% of the work schedule, which includes local (Twin Cities metro area)

Hourly Rate: $31 - $35

Essential Job Duties:

  • Operations and Maintenance:
  • Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical and electro-mechanical locksets to make repairs, adjustments, replacements, or upgrades as needed.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the college electrical trades staff and/or Information Technology department when troubleshooting, repairing, replacing or installing electro-mechanical door hardware such as electronic locksets, electric latch retraction devices, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) operators, power supplies and other related items.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot ADA door operators and related accessories, door closers, mechanical and electro-mechanical door hold open units, doors, frames, pivots, and all other related mechanical and electro-mechanical door hardware products to make repairs, adjustments, replacements, or upgrades as needed.
  • Shim hinges and make adjustments as needed on existing and new doors/frames to achieve correct door fitment and swing of doors in frames.
  • Assist Locksmith with pinning of cylinders, installing cores, and changing student rooms cores for lost keys as directed or needed.
  • Maintain campus owned tools, equipment, service vehicle, and workspace areas in a manner that promotes a clean, organized, efficient and safe work environment.
  • Respond to two-way radio calls, telephone calls, emails, and computerized work orders to make repairs and/or replacements as needed to door, frame, and all door related hardware items.
  • Maintain appropriate stock inventory levels of door and frame related hardware products to allow for immediate replacements of broken items on campus.
  • Skills in using standard office equipment and computer applications, including email, word processing, spreadsheet, and database, or willingness to learn.
  • Provide support for event set-ups as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining a database of all keys issued and all locks, keying, and access credentials for card reading devices.
  • Train others, including student workers and staff in the operation of the keys, locks, and databases.
  • Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received and Exercised:

  • Reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities.
  • This position does not supervise staff or students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; maintain a valid driver’s license and meet St. Olaf College driver authorization criteria with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Experience: 2+ years of door hardware, locksmith, mechanical maintenance, or carpentry experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Locksmith Certification; vocational/technical school training; State of Minnesota electrical license "PLT" (power limited technician's license) as mandated by State law (MN Statute Chapter 326B) to design, layout, plan, install or service electrical low voltage systems for card access, electric locking, and ADA powered doors.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in commercial lock and door hardware industry.

Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check which may include criminal background checks, reference checks, verification of work history, verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, a motor vehicle check, verification of DOT certification, a credit check, employment eligibility verification, and/or a pre-employment physical. Whether a background check is deemed successfully completed will be at the sole discretion of St. Olaf College.
