Weekend Dog Trainer Support

At Kip Melbourne South East, our team is deeply committed to delivering exceptional care to every furry friend that walks through its doors. We are now looking for the pick of the litter to support our existing Board & Train team and help contribute to providing a premium training service to local pets.

This is a casual, weekend-based role. Availability to work across both our Dandenong (Melbourne South East) and Homestead Yarra Valley sites is preferred, as well as across all school holiday periods (including Christmas and Easter). A current driver's license is required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Instruct dogs in fundamental commands using tailored training methods matched to their individual personality and characteristics
  • Follow training programs designed by our Dog Trainers to address problematic behaviours such as aggression, separation anxiety, hyperactivity, and biting
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation in training areas to support the wellbeing of animals and staff
  • Create and distribute media content (photos and videos) for pet owners
  • Provide food and water for pets in care
  • Conduct health checks and general animal husbandry
  • Perform frequent cleaning and upkeep of the facility to maintain a high standard of hygiene and safety

Key Requirements

  • Previous dog training experience is required
  • National Dog Trainers Federation (NDTF) certificate or similar recognised qualification preferred, or willingness to undertake the course
  • Current driver's license
  • Strong understanding of dog behaviour, including breed-specific traits, body language, communication, and socialisation
  • Familiarity with a range of training techniques, including balanced reinforcement, and the ability to adapt these to suit individual dogs
  • Patience and clear communication skills, both with dogs and their owners
  • Ability to analyse behavioural issues, develop solutions, and adjust training techniques as needed
  • A genuine dedication to the wellbeing and welfare of dogs in your care
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with training research and trends
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach, balanced with the ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Confident, capable handling skills across dogs of different sizes, breeds, and temperaments
