Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) is a federal-state vocational program dedicated to helping people with physical or mental disabilities be successful in employment.
Professional Overview
This position performs professional supervisory work overseeing Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors. The role is responsible for leading, coaching, and developing staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; and evaluating performance to ensure effective service delivery and positive workforce outcomes. The incumbent exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, assigning, promoting, disciplining, and recommending personnel actions in alignment with agency policies, and operational goals. This position may require occasional travel within the assigned service area.

Professional Experience
Demonstrated experience applying knowledge of the evolving workforce and the needs of individuals with disabilities within advocacy and/or employment-related roles.

Knowledge of the theories and practices of vocational rehabilitation counseling; professional ethics; principles and techniques of effective communication and interviewing; methods of compiling, organizing, and analyzing data; fiscal management and tracking practices; and applicable state and federal requirements, policies, and procedures.
Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff; determine work priorities, assign and monitor work, and ensure timely completion of assignments; analyze performance, caseload, and operational data to inform decision-making; develop and evaluate programs and recommend policy or procedural improvements; utilize problem-solving techniques; communicate effectively; and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Skill in workforce planning, staff development, and the effective use of resources to support service delivery and achieve program outcomes.

Background Screening Requirement:
It is the policy of the Florida Department of Education that applicants for employment undergo level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirement of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment of being permitted to serve as a volunteer.

Level 2 background screening shall include, but not be limited to, fingerprinting for statewide criminal and juvenile records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and federal criminal records checks through the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and may include local criminal records checks through local law enforcement agencies.
