The technical project manager (TPM) manages and ensures the timely completion of discrete technical or operational projects; establishes technical requirements for the project; defines project deliverables, budgets, and schedules; and oversees the project team in the planning, tracking, and execution of the project from initiation to completion. Projects are a set of related activities associated with Line-Item Projects Project Controls program and candidate must have the ability to produce specific products or provide services to meet customer’s requirements. In this role, you will:

Question- We are looking for a TPM 3 & 4, our previous person left for another organization. We also need an additional scope.

Answer – very schedule heavy, developing the roles, working with various cams in construction and project managers. Keeping their schedules in order, in assisting

? – support project scheduling using P-6. So, they need to be pretty versed in P6, especially if incorporating EA stuff, or is there a schedule that does that?

Answer – yes, this role does require it. It has different requirements on coding based on the scope and project within LANL. There will be heavy P-6 utilization all the way from lower level to higher level schedule levels.

? – How large are the teams that they will be on?

Question – the Project Controls team ranges from 1 person to handling everything to 6 people. The people they support can be up to 50. We normally assign a PC person to a specific Cam, and that Cam reports up through the chain to the PMs. Sometimes, there are multiple Cams assigned to multiple PMs.

Answer – a lot of these projects are seeing up to 400 supporting the project. But the day to day is about 50. There might be a specific OBS that they’re focusing on, so the teams vary in size. The TPM is an additional scope as the project comes online. It’s within the design and procurement phase. Putting down the schedule, helping to track the deliverables, etc. From the DND side, it’s field heavy. So, they will be working more with PMs and Field managers.

? - To confirm the site visits are to the Richland Duty Station, Los Alamos, or both?

Question – if they reside in Richland, they will travel to Los Alamos. If they are remote

? – is there any advantage for having someone at hand, is there an advantage to that.

Question – I think just proximity. We’ve both come from Handford, but we’ve learned the LANL ways.

? - Knowledge of LANL Project Controls procedures, policies, and processes, and DOE O 413.3B EVMS requirements highly desirable. I know it is highly desirable, but I assume someone with this exp would have previously worked at LANL

Answer – hard to be knowledgeable about the polices without working here, but the 413 is highly desirable. Working with multiple projects within reporting and helping with the systems. This is most important. Prior experience is helpful, but not a deal breaker.
